Two scarecrows and an excavation company are together helping protect the world’s most endangered gull from harrier attacks at a North Canterbury breeding site.

The Ashley-Rakahuri Rivercare Group (ARRG) turned to the ancient pest control method and erected Linda, the scarecrow, near the black-billed gull (tarāpuka) colony, last month.

She has proven very efficient, ARRG chairman Nick Ledgard said, and a second scarecrow has since been added at the other end of the breeding ground. Continue reading here.

"There will be no crushing, screening or washing of aggregates as the material will be transported away from site for processing".

This is taken from the report on the proposed Quarry at Rangiora Racecourse. Where is it to be processed then??? Will it be processed at the Tagarts site in Cones Road which is very close to all the new and old housing as well as the Rangiora Hospital in the adjacent area of River Road and Riverview Road and the housing area in the back of these streets.
Is there anyone out there who can tell me this?

The service takes around 3/4 hour and supper usually takes us through to an 8.30 finish. There will be a collection with proceeds going towards maintenance of this historic Category 2 building.

Remember to dress up warmly if it is cold on the night, and also 'go' before you come as the Church does not have a toilet.

Hi everyone,
With Christmas fast approaching, we'd be keen to hear from those who spend the festive season (or part of it) away each year. Where do you go and why? What makes it such a great place to be at this time of year? What are you most looking forward to about the trip? Any words of advice you may have on things to do or places to eat or drink in the area would also be much appreciated. As usual, please put 'NFP' (not for publication) in your comment if you don't want it included in a travel article. Cheers.
