Biting at kindy?

What could be a solution here? How could staff at the childcare place stop a very young kid from biting? Talk with its parents?
She says the place normally does an awesome job - she's just sick of the biting!

Should the kids have been made to stand?

Reporter Kapi-Mana News

They had headphones on and were entertained. A woman in her 50s got on the train with a friend. She walked up to where the kids were sitting, sort of gave them a long look, then stood at the end of the carriage once it was obvious they were not worried. The woman, who was you know average weight etc before we get into that sort of thing, then complained to her friend about the kids and especially their mum for not shifting.
I am not sure if she is right or wrong here.
If the mum told the kids to move for the women, they might’ve got bored on the long trip - at least a half hour or more - and maybe got dirty sitting on the floor or annoyed people on the busy train right?
So what should happen?
The women did not appear physically disabled - just grumpy.

It would've been cool to see them in Porirua. So where would people have taken them? Where would you have recommended the royals visit if they had, say, a day to visit Porirua?

A visit from our District Governor

There would be lunch beforehand with the Board, the dinner venue would be decorated, and spouses (ie wives, back then) would attend in their finery. The DG would make a point of being introduced to all the members.

Times have changed, and Rotary has become softer and less formal. Last evening we had the pleasure of a visit by DG Marion Johnstone and her husband, Mike. They are from Wanganui, a town famed for its friendliness and informality.

DG Marion first showed us her elaborate Speaker’s cane, and noted with some pride that she was the first woman DG to be allowed to have it.

In Marion’s opinion, we are a thriving club that ticks all the important boxes. We are energetic, project-focussed, and effective. The club has played its full part in District affairs.

She went on to set out the vision of Rotary International: to be united in our efforts and take action to make lasting changes for good, globally, locally and for ourselves.

The current President of RI has a slogan: “Be the Inspiration”, which fits nicely with the four-way test.

Marion’s aims for the District are to encourage clubs to be flexible, and to take stock of current projects. There may be too many of these, and some of them may no longer be relevant or engage club members.

She would like to see a shift in emphasis from fundraising to service, especially if this leads to greater community involvement.

Membership is always a major issue. There are more than 20 clubs in the District with fewer than 20 members. What does the future hold for them?

In the meantime, we should look to our public image, proudly wear our Rotary badges, and make sure we get recognition for projects through signage etc.

Marion concluded by urging members to attend District workshops and other training, and to register for the District Conference in Wanganui.

Thoughts on the $1.5 billion housing plan nailed down for Porirua?

It is understood the plan – to be done in partnership with local iwi Ngāti Toa over the next 15 years – will involve redeveloping roughly 2000 state houses in Eastern Porirua, and about 850 state houses in Western Porirua including Titahi Bay. It is also understood the plan will involve the construction of about 2500 KiwiBuild homes.
So what do people think? With Transmission Gully, the Adventure Park, and now this it just feels like Porirua is on the up and up.
