And a huge congratulations to Meg Wilson - the founder of PAWS (Pet Animal Welfare Shops) across South Waikato! Meg's passion for pets received almost 20% of votes which has seen her walk away with a prize package worth $10,000 to support the work she and her team of volunteers do each day.

Thank you Neighbourly members for rallying around businesses in your community and continuing to show them how valued they are!

The outer walls of Te Rauparaha Arena will be lit up with a beautifully animated display in July as part of Porirua’s Matariki celebrations.

With the help of her kuia Patricia Grace, local artist Miriama Grace-Smith has created a stunning display which will be visible in the evenings between 12 and 16 July.

The display tells the nostalgic story of simple Matariki rituals through the eyes of our tamariki. It is set in and around Plimmerton’s Hongoeka Marae, celebrating the rising of Matariki in the dawn sky.

With voices recorded by local children, this work of art is a unique community creation made right here in Porirua. The display will play in a loop each night between 6 and 9pm.

Keep an eye on Porirua City’s dedicated webpage for more information about what’s happening as there are also things happening at Pātaka and our libraries: poriruacity.govt.nz/matariki

"A magical afternoon spent at Silverstream today! A good variety of birds to be seen too! As we got out of the car in the driving range, a kotāre was sitting on the power line to welcome us!
It was funny that Clive and I were just talking about me having seen a magpie taking a bath in the water when I last visited, then a few minutes later after watching 3 kereru and 2 magpies who had been fighting each other earlier on, all sitting in the same tree together, suddenly one of the magpie decided to hop into the water and take a bath much to our delight! There was also a chaffinch taking a bath further up the stream."

What are your winter-warming hacks?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

June is upon us, so it's well and truly time to hunker down for the colder temperatures. For some across Aotearoa, this just means a second duvet on the bed. And for others, it's defrosting your car windscreen daily and bringing out the heaters.
