Kia ora neighbours,

What has been some good news in your neighbourhood that's happened during the lockdown?

Kia ora neighbours, we're getting a lot of stories about Covid-19 saturating our newsfeed and the media as of late and we're keen on helping put a damper on that. We'd love for you to tell us some of the more light-hearted stories that you think deserve a shoutout.

Maybe it's a community hero that's been helping out those that are self-isolating, something you discovered while out exercising in your bubble, or something you're doing to help pass the time.

Please everyone, just a reminder, we are already aware that most animals are creatures of habit, having us around 24/7 is very confusing for our furry friends, please keep this in mind.

If your cat has taken a lil longer to come home or not even going outside or acting not there usual, remember this.

Imagine if we ran our lives by the routine of things that went on around us then suddenly something went wrong & that time clock is no longer reliable anymore with out reason or warning.. Alot of cats know to be home for dinner as there owners cars pull up from work every day... Or breakfast is served when they get up for work first thing in the morning.. Or to start heading home once Joe bloggs at so n sos building get in there car to leave at the end of the day...

Please try & keep your pets routines as normal as possible during lockdown. We all know what's going on & why but our pets don't & their routines have been so messed up suddenly that they will be feeling rather lost & confused as what's what & when now their routines have suddenly stopped working.

Make the effort to still get up to feed them when normally would in the mornings, keep eye on time for the dinner feeds as usual. If you usually let your cat out to play outside at a certain time of the day keep doing so for them!

Alot of cats go missing during this time as they are feeling so lost. Please understand this & do your best to help their lives stay as normal as possible. :)

P. S also, alot of previously lost cats will have there new established routines they have to keep themself fed adapting to new enviroments will no longer be able to rely on that rubbish bin of food scraps outside a nearby restaurant or the playground at the local schools playlunch droppings they had come to rely on also has suddenly stopped for them. These cats may start turning up in people's backyards during this lockdown, please don't just ignore them.. They will be asking for your help..

Contact your local animal rescue team or myself on any of the contacts I've provided below & I will come out with full respect to the level 4 rules & chip scan / help these cats.

Thankyou. :)

Did you know 1 in 4 New Zealand adults will suffer from a mental disorder or distress at some point in their lives? When they do, let’s make sure they don’t have to go it alone. To create safer, more caring communities we need to not only look after ourselves but those around us as well.

For the month of September, we want to come together to share ways to boost mental health and well-being. For example, you could host an online catch up or quiz, call a neighbour who lives alone, challenge your family and friends to try a new hobby or move your body more to improve your own well-being. If you or someone you know is going through a rough patch, don’t forget you can call or text 1737 anytime for free support from a trained counsellor.

Want to share your thoughts? Let us know how you’re looking out for your well-being and helping others with theirs this month by tagging us in your social media posts or emailing us your photos, videos, or experiences to: info@neighbourhoodsupport.co.nz
