A disused section in the city centre will be the first to go, beginning on 10 October. Removing the entire 82 kilometres of overhead wires will take 12 months, starting in November. Power to the trolleys will be switched off on 31 October.
Greater Wellington Regional Council says the trolleys have served the city well over the decades, but it’s time to look to new environmentally-friendly technology that can be used throughout the entire city and region. It says that next year the region will get a new fleet of low-emission diesels, as well as 10 electric double-deckers – and in the next few years there’ll also be another 22 electric double-deckers. Eventually the whole fleet will be electric, it says.

The Rangituhi-Colonial Knob Warriors group invite you to join in on this walking challenge.
This is designed for those that have never walked the colonial knob walkway or have walked it but haven't been in long long time😅
This can be done at any time, there is no time limit you keep an eye on your own progress.
Here's what you do. It's in the title.
Walk1-walk to the first bridge and back to start (first day)
Walk2-walk to the next bridge then back to start
And so on & so on...until you reach the final bridge on the bush track near the top.
And before you know it you'll be walking to the top!!
Remember like any major walk or marathon, you've gotta build yourself up to it.
I would suggest walking to the same bridge several times before your confident to move onto the next.
Post your progress up with a pic on the Rangituhi Colonial Knob Warriors group page, doesn't have to be a selfie. You can do this. Enjoy!!
