Porirua City Council has granted Housing New Zealand resource consent to develop 53 two-storey dwellings, ranging in size between one and five bedrooms, in eastern Porirua’s Castor Loop area on a plot that has been empty for nine years.

The development will be part of a wider building programme that will see Wellington's state housing stock increase by as many as 145 homes, with even more planned for the rest of the country. A Housing NZ spokesman said the organisation planned to hold further meetings to update the community, following an initial design meeting back in March.

Laugh Like a Lord or Lady

Five top Wellington comedians are amping to inflict you with a good belly-laugh on Friday August 24th at Porirua's beautiful Gear Homestead.

Mana College teacher Gabby Anderson won this year's Raw Comedy Quest 2018 best new New Zealand Comedian award. Peter Lambert, a.k.a. Patch, was one of five nominees for the Billy T. Award in 2017. Jim is a top Wellington comedian who learned her craft alongside premier comics Dai Henwood, Steve Wrigley and Ben Hurley.

Event organiser, and self-confessed 'old man of comedy' Greg Ellis, who will be busting out improv with Richard Falkner, says this is a chance to enjoy a great comedy line-up for a good cause.

Money raised will help fund Titahi Bay Intermediate's September school camp. Doors open at 6.30pm and the event starts at 7.30pm.

Tickets ($30 which includes meat or vegetarian nachos) are available by emailing tbissg@gmail.com or from Titahi Bay Intermediate weekdays 8.30am-3.30pm.

Porirua City Council has issued $6000 worth of fines in a year for infringements involving parking on berms. Protecting underground infrastructure and keeping footpaths clear for pedestrians were the main reasons for the ticketing blitz.

PCC manager of monitoring and compliance Leonie McPhail said there were important reasons for keeping berms clear.

"Important infrastructure, such as pipes and cables for water and internet, run directly under the berms to connect homes to various networks. They cost a lot to repair should they get damaged. We also need to ensure the paths are clear especially for people using mobility scooters or pushing prams," McPhail said.
