Although many people were for the idea, some parents felt "blindsided" that they weren't forewarned that Hana Kōkō would be stepping in for Santa Claus. The parade's organisers have since apologised.
So we want to know your view on this topic. Are you in support of modernising Christmas, or do you prefer a traditional Santa? Take part in our poll below!

Found an elderly cat outside our property on Oriel Avenue. It’s in quite a bad condition. Dirty, matted fur and very hungry. If anyone knows the owner you can contact us on 027 2322 848.

The weather played its part and the participant entries were another great collection of individuals and community groups who made the effort to celebrate the Christmas season with us. Each year we see the big smiles on the faces of the children who line the Main Road and it makes all the lead-up work and investment very worthwhile. A special thanks to all those who contributed their time to make your Parade another success.

- Don’t turn your back to the waves.
- Always take your lifejacket.
- Tell someone when you’ll be back.
- Don’t drive when you are tired.
And remember if you stray too far, the Choppers can help. In the last 12 months, Wellington’s Westpac Rescue Helicopter flew 415 missions keeping Kiwis safe.
Stay safe in Chopper Country.

Or are you just after a regular babysitter?
well I hope I can help with any of them :) I’m Abbie, I’m 18. I currently am on break until mid feb. I’m a student nurse so have basic first aid. I have my own “modern” car, a full clean drivers license so am happy for day time trips to the beach or to the playground.
I’m confident and comfortable with long days which may include feeding, bathing, bedtimes.
I don’t charge an arm and a leg but I just want to make a little extra cash. Im confident with all ages and have been looking after kids for a couple of years. I have references if required.
Please give me a call or a text if you have any questions or would like to meet.
02102519462.
Look forward to hear from you shortly,
Abbie :)
