Hi neighbours,

How about those Phoenix?!

The Wellington Phoenix came from behind to beat the Mariners on the weekend to extend their unbeaten record to eight games - their best ever run in their history. Saturday's game also saw our Kiwi A-League team play in front of 10,186 spectators - their best crowd in recent years.

New coach Mark Rudan has been widely credited with rejuvenating the team - read his passionate post-game thoughts here.

Did you head along to the stadium to support the boys on the weekend?

Are you back on the bandwagon? Or did you never get off?

If the answer is a 'no' or perhaps an initial 'yes' followed by an 'I've changed my mind', then who gets to keep the ring? And what are the consumer ins and outs of trying to get a refund on a diamond sparkler?

We're looking for individuals who are happy to share their story of a ring return: perhaps the break up was acrimonious and you've tried to cash in the ring yourself, or maybe your ex disappeared with the sparkler, never to be seen again. If you've got a story, please share it below (please add NFP if you don't want it used in print). And if you've got a really good story that'll take a little longer, please email kelly.dennett@stuff.co.nz.

A SUMMER SPECIAL: A MULLED WINE CONCERTS PRESENTATION
Mister Show Biz - RAY WOOLF meets NZ’s Iconic Jazz Artist - RODGER FOX
alongside Vivacious Jazz/Blues Singer - ERNA FERRY

Mulled Wine Concerts - Kapiti's vibrant concert organisation headed by pianist Mary Gow

will put on a special event to kick off their 2019 season. The Summer Special concert

featuring giants of the New Zealand music scene will happen at the historic St Peter's Hall

in Paekakariki on Saturday 26 January 2019. Mary Gow is upbeat - "We have had to move

for this concert only - it is a great venue and is even closer to the centre of the village" she

says.

The concert will feature an evening of great music, featuring Ray Woolf, Rodger Fox and

his ensemble with Erna Ferry.

Ray Woolf was born in Dagenham, Essex and the Woolf family came to New Zealand in

1962. Within a month, the singer came to the attention of Eldred Stebbing and shortly after

he toured NZ in support of UK singer Helen Shapiro. “It all happened very very fast,” says

Woolf. “Within a matter of months I was part of the NZ music scene.” His appeal crosses

generations with a musical CV that includes pop, rock, soul, cabaret and jazz, while his

television career ranges from drama and soap opera to fronting Play School and his own

talk show. Mums, dads and grandparents love him and even those with little interest in

music will remember him as the guy with Howard Morrison on the Bic television ads. In

1980 he began his association with musical theatre starring in Hans Christian Anderson,

The Music Man, The Sound Of Music (100 performances so far) New Rocky Horror Show,

West Side Story, A Slice Of Saturday Night, Blood Brothers, Golf the Musical and later this

year the King in The King and I. Recent TV credits include: The Strip, Shortland Street,

Orange Roughies, Interrogation, Nothing Trivial, St. Legal and Xena.

For 43 years Rodger Fox and his big band have set the benchmark for jazz in New

Zealand. Unlike many jazz musicians who’ve gone offshore, Rodger has stayed here to

offer his gift of performance, arranging, administration, conducting and teaching. The

Mulled Wine concert will see Rodger lead his select jazz ensemble, playing his dynamic

solos and leading the music. Erna Ferry is a vivacious, fun and sparkling jazz/blues singer

with a great stage personality. She has the ability to grab the audience and make them

hers. Whether she is singing a slow sultry ballad or belting out a swinging blues, you are in

no doubt that Erna is giving the song her utmost.
