He reminded members that the first $1,000 we won in the Regional Finals of the Wellington Airport Regional Community Awards in the Sport and Leisure category had been spent on the purchase of ERKs, perhaps to be sent to Tonga. The second $1,000 prize for winning the Final would be spent on other projects the Club is undertaking.
Jo congratulated the club on winning the award which is sponsored by Wellington Airport, Wellington Community Trust, and five local Councils. Judges comprise the five regional Mayors and representatives from the Community Trust and Wellington Airport. The Awards have been running for 17 years and this year there were 270 groups who applied. Jo commented that the applications reflected the enormous contribution that volunteers make around the region. She presented President Kay with a beautiful certificate which for the next little while is going to hang at The Lighthouse for all to admire. It should be noted that this was the first year that finalists had to produce a video and write their own script. Sincere thanks are due to Phillip for having produced and delivered this.
The editor has been reminded that this is not, of course, the first time that Te Ara Piko project has been honoured. We won the Wellington Airport Regional Community Heritage and Environment category Award in 2013 and the New Zealand Recreation Association Outstanding Project Award in 2015.

Councillors on Thursday morning resolved to suspend paid parking until March 2023.

We're looking for household sign-ups in these suburbs. This involves the installation of traps/bait stations on or near your property. It's FREE and the devices are FULLY SERVICED by our team.
Our team will be working in Houghton Bay, Island Bay, and Ōwhiro Bay over the next few weeks. We will be pounding the pavements, knocking on doors, putting up posters - and getting people excited about becoming predator free.

President Kay says this was a highlight of her year. She thanked Allan first for initiating, and driving the event. Barbara, of course, is always right there in … View morePresident Kay says this was a highlight of her year. She thanked Allan first for initiating, and driving the event. Allan made all the games as his original set had been given away to a school several years ago. He is one of the many gems of our Club. Barbara, of course, is always right there in support literally helping to make money and typing lists, amongst other things. Philip Whearty, the amazing entrepreneur that he is, printed a great deal of money. The setup was led by Bryan, Allan, and Peter with several others. Bruce kept his treasurial (Yes, that is a word) eye on the financial side of the proceedings. Euon’s fantastic auctioneering skills saw bottles of wine being sold for a thousand dollars. The croupiers had a lot of fun hustling business for the various games: Rachel (Roll of the Dice), Graham Craig (Pontoon), Bryan (Roulette), Dexter (Chocolate Wheel), Bruce (Horse Racing), Kay (Two-Up) and Peter (Slater Racing, Technical Manager and Animal Trainer). A big thanks has to go also, to the punters. You were great – losing and winning large sums with abandon. Spot prizes were handed out. From a very strong field, Jenny Lucas and David Knight won the Best Dressed Woman and Man respectively. Perhaps we should have had a prize for the best dressed/coordinated couple as there were several.
The buzz, laughter, shouts of triumph or dismay punctuating the balmy air were testament to a very enjoyable evening. All in all, an evening to remember. Thank you, Plimmerton Rotarians and visitors.
