Following the fault on Monday with the low manganese bore that is supplying the Martinborough Township, the pump was successfully replaced yesterday.

However this morning the pump experienced an electrical fault, which means there is no water pumping from the bore and reservoir levels are going down. We have our team on site working on a replacement as fast as possible.

The total outdoor water ban is still in place, and the community is encouraged to continue with their water conservation efforts. If the township uses more water than we can supply from the low-manganese bore, we will have to use the other bores as well. That could mean the town’s drinking water becoming discoloured.

Enjoy the very best of locally-made crafts, artisan food, and refreshments in a lovely rural setting at the Eat Drink and Be Crafty Fair. There will also be a live band and plenty of entertainment for all ages – it’s sure to be a great family day out for everyone and is a must on your social calendar.
Cell phone coverage in the area of Battle Hill is patchy which in turn means coverage for Eftpos machines can be a problem. In the past, cash has proved to be the most reliable means for transactions. There will be a limited Eftpos facility on the day supplying cash.
This event is run by Mana Lions. The proceeds from the day will support Wellington Free Ambulance and local Porirua Community Charities.
Where: Greater Wellington’s Battle Hill Farm Forest Park, 608 Paekakariki Hill Road, Porirua, Wellington
Admission: Gold coin donation

South Wairarapa Mayor Alex Beijen is urging the community to immediately cease using water outside and to conserve water generally.

“On Monday evening, the pump on the township’s low-manganese bore faulted and is being urgently replaced. With no water being pumped the water reservoir reserves are going down."

Mayor Beijen said he had been advised that installing the spare pump could be done within a day, but until the reservoir levels have recovered and we know the replacement pump is working well, we must conserve water.

“It’s essential that the community immediately responds to this pressing need to conserve water. If the township uses more water than we can supply from the low-manganese bore, we will have to use the other bores as well. That could mean the town’s drinking water becoming discoloured.

“Although safe to drink, the water could lose its clarity due to the reaction between manganese and chlorine – we want to avoid discoloured water if we can.

“We’re addressing infrastructure replacement as fast as possible, and this is unfortunate timing of an equipment failure,” said Mayor Beijen.

Information on how to conserve water will be shared throughout the community – you can find out more at www.wellingtonwater.co.nz...

“We will update the community when more information is available,” Mr Beijen said.
