We are looking for a someone to join us as an advanced Support Worker:
$20 - 25 per hour

Competitive hourly rate, part-time, support provided
Hours and Days:
6-20 hrs per week
You'll be working 2 – 4hrs per day ( longer hours during school holidays) and doing 1 - 3 sessions per week

There may be occasional morning hours on Saturdays

School holidays :

We will consider employing more than one person for these times so you might apply for only the weekly work, or only the school holidays, or for both. We can be flexible with days/times for the right person. Other casual work may be available including possible over-night stays at Anthony’ house (whilst family are away).
Be part of a team using positive support to achieve true community inclusion

Ideal role for someone with a background in teaching, psychology or learning support (or a student in those fields)

About the role:

We are looking for a caregiver to help support a 22 year old young man who has an intellectual disability, ready to transition to adult life. Your job is to help him do typical things in his community, whilst helping other people get to know him. Happy to take part in activities if that’s what Anthony is interested in. This role will be challenging at times so it helps if you’re the kind of person that isn’t easily rattled and is always looking for solutions.

Also to spend time with him, walking the dogs, take him to the movies, BrainGym, Staglands or other activities.

Full training and support will be given, including behavioral strategies.

You’ll be responsible for:

Encouraging communication and participation in the community

Prompting Anthony to practice skills that he can do (but sometimes doesn’t)

Giving Anthony’s family a break by taking him out into the community

Supporting Anthony’s inclusion in the community

Some personal care support, helping Anthony shave and get changed to go to the pool among other things.

Taking Anthony to work experience

As well as teach him to use public transport.

Skills & experience:

Current driver’s license and car

Prior experience with disabled preferred

First Aid Certificate (preferable)

Applicants must have strong communication skills

Applicants meeting the criteria outlined above will be contacted as part of the shortlisting process.

About us:

We live in the Northern suburbs of Wellington. We are organised, experienced employers and have a clear vision for Anthony’ life.

Through these tough times we have learned the true strength and resilience of our communities and have witnessed first hand the abundance of aroha in Aotearoa.

Now more than ever, the fern seems to best capture the spirit of our country. If we look to our Māori roots, we are reminded of the twist or pikorua which resembles two intertwined pikopiko ferns - a fern known for thriving in dark, damp areas of our woods. A reminder that difficult conditions can actually be an opportunity for tremendous growth.

The entanglement of the pikorua also has no beginning or end which is often used to represent an everlasting bond. Although we are all on our own path in life, in the end we always come back together - we are all connected through our interwoven lives.

We are soon getting under way with installing a large additional watermain pipe in Omapere Street, Warspite Avenue and Cleat Street, Waitangirua/Whitby. The project will increase resilience and provide capacity for future development.

This work will take about 20 weeks, beginning 8 April. Hours of work will generally be 8am-4pm Monday to Friday, with some Saturdays worked if necessary.

While work areas will be fenced off, we will make sure residents have access to their property at all times. There may be times when a contractor needs to gain access to a property, in this case residents will be given at least 24 hours’ notice of this. Please contact our project team if you have any concerns.

When we are working within the Skyline Reserve, it will be necessary to temporarily close the pedestrian footpath from Omapere Street to Staysail Place from 8 April until early-June 2019. This will help us get the work done as quickly as possible and keep the public safe.

On-street car parking in the area alongside the worksite will be restricted and we ask you to please not park your vehicle within the coned areas. This will help us to get the work done as quickly as possible. There may be some delay for traffic passing through the worksite during working hours as well.

All updates on this project will be available on our website.
