Rodney Local Board Targeted Rate - $1500 over 10 years

HAVE YOUR SAY – Vote Yes or No - for the Rodney Local Boards (RLB) request of an $1500 additional Targeted Rate (TR) for minor transport infrastructure projects within the Rodney District. This applies to each household and will be collected along with the standard rates over the life of the 10 Year Auckland City Council Plan. I.E $150 per year.

The monies are to be used within the Rodney District and each area will get a project. Without being divisive, an example given by a representative at the recent Helensville meeting advised us, one of Muriwai’s projects will be the Curb and Channelling of Domain Cres.

As worthy as this project is, one has to consider if all Muriwai ratepayers, tenants and future residents think this will beneficial to the tune of $1500.00 each household. Add this to the ACC rates, + the proposed 11c per litre petrol surcharge + water infrastructure levy, the costs start mounting for those on fixed incomes and young families.

It is pleasing the RLB are encouraging the vote option in “Have Your Say” however you should be aware that traversing the site is not the easiest of things to do.

DO NOT let this put you off. Most people are likely aware of how they feel on the issue and there is ample info to read on the website. On the website there are many questions and if you have the time, they should be considered.

This Targeted Rate is payable by all current Rodney and future ratepayers for 10 yrs. This obviously will impact to an extent to those renting properties, as this TR will likely be included in a landlord’s calculations. The point is that as many residents as possible in Rodney should go onto the link BELOW and HAVE YOUR SAY NOW, as you will likely be affected by the result.

Everyone has until the 28th March (just 4 days) to have your say by going here;

www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz...

For those whose TIME IS PRECIOUS and want to go directly to the TARGETED Rate question, Copy the below directions and follow. Then go to the above link.

Firstly: Click on the blue coloured wording “Have your say now”.

Secondly: Then click the word “START” at bottom of the page. This brings up
Step 1 – Complete your personal details.

Thirdly: Click the word “NEXT” at bottom of page. This brings up Step 2.
Go to Question 6. Tick Rodney.
Then Click the word NEXT at bottom of
page.
This brings up Step 3.

Fourthly: Scroll to Question E and make your choice.

Fifthly: Then follow through instructions on bottom of the pages to the last
page of the questionnaire and finish.

Before finishing – Consider simplifying your choice to either YES or NO.
The option “Partially” and “comments” can sometimes leave
a doubt to the counters and your vote may go elsewhere.

Please share where appropriate.

We want to know how many Neighbourly members who are over 65 have had a fall or fear falling?

We value our older people and want them to stay well and independent. We want them to Live Stronger for Longer. We’ll share more about why we’re asking next week.

I have been requesting for a few years now, that they extend the 3 yellow lines in front of the bus stop, to match the 7 yellow line before the bus stop, so that they extend past the turning point of this intersection, to prevent cars parking there.
If a car is parked there, drivers making a right turn from Daffodil are forced into the middle of the road or into the oncoming traffic lane, depending on size of vehicle. If a car is turning right from Atkinson into Daffodil, and has to stop and wait for the traffic coming down from the village, the flow of traffic is then blocked as cars can't pass in the inside of the turning vehicle if a car has parked there. The traffic soon starts to back up as everyone has to wait for that car to turn into Daffodil. This is a huge problem and inconvenience around school drop off and pick up times as I'm sure some of you know! I have 2 learner driver daughters using this intersection daily and they (and plenty of other people I've spoken to) have experienced 'close calls' and 'abuse' as there is "nowhere to go". Last year, after speaking to Duncan Campbell of AT, he said he'd seen the intersection and recommends and agrees that the yellow lines should extend past the intersection. Instead, we now have a car park. I contacted him today about it and he said it always was a car park so effectively, nothing's changed. I think if a few more people expressed their concern for the safety of anyone using this intersection and their annoyance at the extensive delays a parked car causes if another is turning, AT might remove the new white lines and put in the yellow lines needed past the bus stop. I was also trying to get the foliage that extends out to the pavement, trimmed back hard, to give a few more meters of visual access to a driver sitting on Daffodil street wanting to make a right hand turn onto Atkinson. That person is going from a stop start.......and cars come flying around the bend doing 50kph. In seconds they are up your ar** tooting like you deliberately pulled out in front of them. Reality is, you can't see them coming. This is very unnerving for a learner driver. Any support, by expressing your shared concerns to Auckland Transport to urge them to take action and make this intersection safer, would be greatly appreciated. You can use their web site to log a complaint via email, or call them on 09 3553553 (ask to speak to Duncan Campbell) or text or call Amirul on 021535814. I need more people to bring AT's awareness up to a point that they might just take action! Thanks .
