Transport projects in Auckland have been given a $7.3 billion boost to be distributed over the next three years.

Major projects like the City Rail Link, Light Rail, Eastern Busway will be supported by the funds, as well highway upgrades and new walking and cycling connections.

It is part of a $24.3 billion transport package announced by Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency on Tuesday.

Waka Kotahi spokesperson Steve Mutton said the funding will support growth with more accessible, sustainable travel options.

“Auckland is a world class city and it needs a world-class transport system that is safe and efficient to keep everyone moving as New Zealand’s largest city continues to grow,” he said.

The New Zealand official yearbook 1959

Now this is a very interesting read, and I've just started (if you like this sort of stuff)
The comparison from then to now ... well read for yourselves.
Learning all about the percentages of beneficiaries (all levels) then and now, well I'd said not much has changed per capita.
Seeing the numbers from certain years, truly shows how the economy was or wasn't running dictated by events e.g. world wars.
It just shows that we really haven't learned a great deal over the years.
Just repeating or dressing up the same mistakes, when will we ever learn?
Anyway, for those who want to peruse though the yearbook, here's the link: www3.stats.govt.nz...

Will the Government and the Greens still pursue the resettlement of the 235 refugees from Nauru and PNG?

Danny from Titirangi

The Australian Government have refused to take the remaining 235 refugees from Nauru Island and PNG because they cannot verify their identities. If NZ were to accept them what position would that put us in not knowing who they were? Could we be admitting more extremists?

ESSENTIAL SERVICES UNDER LOCKDOWN.

Linda from Henderson

I guess if you break your glasses not being able to SEE would not be classed an essential service under lockdown 3 or 4.
There needs to be so much more thought put into these never ending Auckland lockdowns.
Luckily I have found an old pair.

Recipe: Chicken Kiev

New Zealand School of Food & Wine

Inspired by the classic dish from the city of Kieve in Ukraine, Chicken Kiev is a dish made of chicken fillet pounded and rolled around cold butter, then coated with eggs and bread crumbs, and either fried or baked prepared by our Advanced cookery student Timmika at home during the lockdown.

This will be an absolute Godsend in these times, and especially as so many people are very nervous about going to the supermarket, testing station or to be vaccinated.
So, maybe this tool will help ease your mind as to how long you have to wait for two of them - the testing station and supermarkets (there are tabs on the left side for each of them).
I typed in Henderson, Auckland in the address field - hence the general map area of Henderson
Keep in mind, they are approximate times as they are updated by people in the lines.
But still ... anything helpful has to be a good thing - right?

OMG!! Yet another new variant is on the W.H.O. watch list

As it possibly has a constellation of new mutations, it could make this new strain resistant to vaccines😲
Its already appeared in approximate 39 countries thus far, including Europe, UK and USA, since first appearing in Columbia in January 2021.
Now, at the back of my mind, I knew that this Corona virus was going to continue to mutate as time went by, however, as I've just had my first dose of the vaccine, I think that the timing of this news is ... argh!!!
Add this one to the list of things to watch - oh great🙄

Aucklanders are being forced to evacuate their homes after severe rainfall overnight caused localised flooding.

Around 50 to 60 homes have been evacuated and an emergency shelter has been set up at 6 Henderson Valley Road.

West Auckland has been hit the worst with flooding in Helensville, Kumeu, Henderson Valley and Rānui.

Firefighters received around 170 weather related calls overnight.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said evacuation advice overrides Covid-19 restrictions.

Auckland’s two vaccination centres at the Trusts Arena and the Airport have been damaged and will not open until 11am.

SH16 through Kumeu is closed due to flooding between Matua Road and Riverhead Road, and Waka Kotahi has reports of fallen trees and slips across the wider network.

MetService said heavy rain is expected to continue throughout Tuesday.

Neighbourly spokesperson Sarah Moore encourages people to check in on their neighbours - especially if they’re elderly or alone.

“But ensure you're abiding by Level 4 rules consider emailing, texting or using Neighbourly to send a message. Even if they're doing well, the connection will mean a lot,” she said.

“When there's a break in the weather carefully head outside to check whether anything is blocking your drains or has come loose in a storm. Don't rush - things could be slippery. If you do notice damage make sure you take photos in case you need to lodge an insurance claim.”
