This very same advice was given 18 years ago by coastal scientist Jim Dahm in a comprehensive report for the Waikato Regional Council. See the link below for what he advised.
18 years later his advice is still being ignored by decision makers. 18 years in which to tackle these issues has been wasted. We cannot afford to waste a moment longer. The time for the Councils to front up is well overdue.

For example, Jan had two painters provide quotes for some painting and wallpaper work. She chose her painter and the work was completed. Two weeks later she noticed bumps and lumps in the wallpaper, that she hadn’t noticed at the time the bill was paid.
With a faulty product, you can return it and ask for a repair, replacement or refund. But that’s not so easy with a service! But Jan’s story ended well, the painter came back and rectified the problem at no cost to Jan.

On August 5, the personal trainer set a steady 5km/hour pace on the treadmill at TCA Your Gym in Thames, supported by friends, family and community members.
The challenge has so far raised $3500 for the Heart Foundation and she hoped to raise another $1000 for the charity over the next month, she said.
The fundraiser was in memory of her Dad, Lawrence Peacock, who lost his life to heart disease seven years ago at just 51 years of age.

This is all highly commendable but there is no cause for further delay in mapping coastal flooding hazard areas. The Govt required this work be done in 2010. Identify the hazards– then talk to the public. This is what most other coastal Councils are doing.
