TCDC has received a report on the proposed Kopu Landing Site Upgrade. The preferred option is to build a new slipway/pontoon/ wharf, to support an expanded marine service industry for the aquaculture industry in the Firth of Thames.

With fragile roading, alternative transport links via the sea make sense. But the expanded onshore marine service industry at Kopu is proposed on low-lying land likely to be flooded from the sea. Once again climate change impacts are ignored. Read More at - teggtalk.wordpress.com...

With warmer weather heading our way, gardening is a great way to stay fit and get regular doses of Vitamin D to help strengthen our bones.

The Home Safety checklist will give you practical tips on how to avoid falls, sprains and strains while pulling those stubborn weeds. For example, when you’re gardening avoid heavy lifting and use long-handled tools so you’re not bending over for long periods. Steady yourself when bending and standing, no pesky weed is worth falling for!

A new movement called Live Stronger for Longer is helping to reduce the risk of falls by providing practical information and free resources. We want to help you stay on your feet, and living the life you want to live.

Take the home safety checklist with your friends and family and join the movement today.

Proudly brought to you by ACC, HQ&SC, MOH and your local community health providers.

Hi neighbours,

Tuesday's storm over the Waikato caused havoc for some locals, including Clem Newby whose cows were struck by lightning. The dairy farmer said he heard a "hell of a bang" before finding four cows had died when hit by lightning. You can read the full story here, please note however there is a graphic warning on this story as some images may be upsetting.

"The lightning was just horrific and it really frightened myself. I had never heard anything like it in my life and it really shook the cowshed," says Clem.

The storm caused power outages, school closures, and flash flooding. Even some houses were hit by lightning. So, what was it like at your place? Have you ever seen a storm like this in the Waikato before? Share your thoughts with us in the replies below.

Parts of the foreshore of Thames are sinking between 8 mm and 13 mm a year. Thames Coromandel District Council and Waikato Regional Council are fully aware of the added risk from sea level rise this poses to low-lying subdivision suburbs such as Moanataiari. But no further research has been undertaken. Contrast this with Dunedin where the Councils have begun a comprehensive drilling program to research subsidence rates of just 1mm – 2 mm.
