Over the last 10 years it seems temperatures above 29 degrees have only occurred three times previously; 30º in Feb 2022, 31º in Jan 2019 and 30º in Jan 2015.

The humid, thundery weather over the country has also brought heavy squally showers, particularly to inland areas, but fortunately Kapiti benefitted from a couple of these coming in from the north-west on Monday and Tuesday mornings, delivering around 18mm in total.

It's been over a month since we had any worthwhile rain so drought conditions are settling-in, particularly with increasing temperatures. On Wednesday, Jan 17 the maximum temperature in Kapiti was 27.4 degrees and yesterday 28 degrees, both recorded in central Paraparaumu. Also, over the last two nights the temperature did not drop below 20 degrees there.

Lets Aim for Zero Waste

Marie from Waikanae

Instead of running polls that ask if people want more rubbish collection, and encouraging people to put out more waste, why not have a competition to see who can get closest to zero waste over a couple of weeks.
