As part of our regular training for our specialist teams, Police will be undertaking a training exercise in Kapiti on Friday 8 October.

The exercise will take place in Queen Elizabeth II Park between 9am and 3pm.

The Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) will be supporting the training exercise with an NH90 helicopter.

Our specialist teams undertake this type of tactical training regularly at various locations around New Zealand.

During the training exercise, there will be a visible police presence in the area of Queen Elizabeth II Park, including staff carrying firearms.

Members of the public in the area will also hear noise from the helicopter.

Police would like to reassure the public that there is no cause for alarm.

Police are grateful to the Park Ranger and RNZAF for their support and assistance.

We would also like to acknowledge that these types of training exercises could not happen without the support of our local communities, and we thank them for their assistance and cooperation.

Anyone else had the same ?

We’re reviewing our representation arrangements – it's your opportunity to re-imagine your council and how it can work better for our district.

This is about the kind of democratic model we want for Kāpiti. It affects the number and location of wards and how many councillors we have, whether they’re elected locally (by ward) or district wide, and if we have community boards or not.

Here at Neighbourhood Support we know first hand that communities that stay connected and prepared fare better in emergencies and natural disasters than those without a plan.

For the month of October, we want to see how you tackle emergency preparedness. From getting first aid training and stocking up on essentials to putting together a grab n’ go bag or working with your neighbours to create a neighbourhood resillience plan, a little bit of planning goes a long way to make sure you and your community can get through any situation. Joining or setting up a Neighbourhood Support group is a great way to keep in touch and work together to reach out, look out and help out one another no matter what life may bring.

Don’t forget! This month also coincides with New Zealand’s national earthquake drill and tsunami hikoi, ShakeOut, which will be taking place on Thursday, October 28th at 9:30am.

Let us know how you’re getting prepared this month by tagging us in your social media posts or emailing us your photos, videos, or experiences to: info@neighbourhoodsupport.co.nz

Awful Spam Phone Calls

Russell from Paraparaumu

I got a pretty disturbing phone call yesterday from someone spouting filth at me in a strong Eastern European accent. It was from an 021 number. This morning I got another suspected one, but from an 027 number, but didn't answer and blocked both.

Anyone else?
