When in reality 6 people including a police officer went to work today and now lie injured in hospital. Two more are deceased. His words today are unacceptable to me because they were not words of condolences to the families of the injured and deceased. They were not any acceptance of responsibility for the legislated limitations now placed on the Police, Justice and Corrections that have enabled a known convicted perpetrator of violent crime to be convicted, sentenced and then rock up to work with an electronic bracelet on and with a loaded weapon to mow innocent people down. This makes me mad because we expect protection as a society from violence. It’s time to ask for a lot better than we are getting. I know this isn’t a Kapiti issue, but here is one - Breanna Muriwai is still missing after 11 months. Her family deserve better than to be told by local police to go (put themselves at risk, carry out their own investigation, and come in contact with dangerous killers in the process) to find her body before they will further any investigation. It is not good enough and her grieving family deserve better than this. They deserve a thorough and effective police investigation now. #bringbreannamuriwaihome.
