Come along to our first market pop-up about the options for the new Waikanae library and community hub at the Waikanae Community Market this Saturday.

After considering several building options, Council wants your community input on the three most achievable, affordable and sustainable options. We’re also asking people to tell us what’s most important to them for the new facility to provide.

You can also visit our engagement centre at 2 Mahara Place over the next six weeks to read about the options, have fun with some engagement exercises, and tell us your thoughts.

To find out more about this project and have your say online, visit www.kapiticoast.govt.nz...

Next week we'll begin maintenance on a number of trees at Waikanae Park to improve safety for our visitors. The mature poplar trees, which line the accessway from Park Avenue to the former green waste site, have dangerous limbs needing to be trimmed. Our contractor will be using a crane for access, as well as a digger and chipper to process wood onsite.

Following this mahi, we'll be felling a number of trees bordering the old green waste site to improve site safety for a new tenant. We expect this work to take approximately three weeks to complete.

To keep our community safe, there'll be no public access to this site while work is underway, and we're working directly with the Waikanae Pony Club to ensure their events can happen around our works.

Please take extra care and follow the instructions of crews and signage.

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

June is upon us, so it's well and truly time to hunker down for the colder temperatures. For some across Aotearoa, this just means a second duvet on the bed. And for others, it's defrosting your car windscreen daily and bringing out the heaters.

Just a little car overtaking, not a truck, not speeding, and then several sharp cracks - windscreen gone. Seems like workers should be sweeping the road and taking a bit more care after road works. It's thousands of dollars to replace a windscreen with embedded technology. How many others have been whacked with costly stones on TG?

Sam was disengaged and struggling to find meaning in his daily routine of attending school, doing chores, and playing video games. Then, he was invited to join a Graeme Dingle Foundation programme, which introduced him to the outdoors.

After the wilderness adventure, Sam became more confident and self-assured, and his teachers noticed a positive change in his sociability and willingness to ask questions in class.

He developed a "give-it-a-go" attitude. Inspired by his newfound passion for the outdoors, Sam plans to join the New Zealand Defence Force after finishing school.
