We love poppies, and this Tibetan blue (Meconopsis betonicifolia) is especially eye-catching. They are available from a number of nurseries, including Blue Mountain in Tapanui.

We have been trying to reduce our use of plastic bags at Food Together almost since we started over 2 years ago. Firstly we offered people one of the cloth Food Together re-usable bags to pack your orders into. We also offered the Food Together cooler bags last summer. When customers have arrived at St Matthews to collect their orders, without their own bag to pack into, we can usually offer you a produce box to pack your order into. That way we can at least recycle the majority of the plastic bags we pack your orders into. More recently we have trialled plastic tubs to pack into and these are working so well with our St Matthews pick up customers that we hope to start this with Te Tihi customers this week. The key will be remembering your bags or a box to pack from the tubs into what you intend to take the produce home in. We can supply some plastic bags in the short term at Te Tihi and at St Matthews for people to use if they forget a carry bag as the tubs will be returned to us from Te Tihi each week and cannot be taken home. Customers ordering the whanau fiesta boxes will still receive their orders in a box. We will continue to use plastic bags for now for the hospital orders.
Congratulations to Eileen who has won a $20 order for providing us with some great feedback last week. Thanks to the other customers who took the time to provide some very positive and worthwhile feedback for us but did not win the lucky draw. We would love even more feedback perhaps write us a recommendation this week. Another lucky draw for a $20 order is available this week-winner will be notified by Friday.
Check out the photo of our volunteers enjoying a thank you morning tea at Awatapu College with the students who have been helping us all year packing your orders.
