Graham’s solo exhibition Rural Recollections opened in March, and closed just a week later due to Covid19. The opening of ‘Rural Recollections – Revisited’ is an opportunity to join the artist in celebrating the re-opening of the exhibition, which includes several new works completed during lockdown.

You are invited to join us at 5.30pm on Saturday the 24th of October for a BBQ and complimentary drinks to celebrate the occasion. There will be an opportunity to chat to the artist and of course enjoy some great art.

There is no charge and no need to book – everyone is welcome. See you there!

Graham’s paintings depict his life-long love of farming and the unique landscape that New Zealand offers. His works are a reminiscence of rural life and moments in time that make up the rich tapestry of our farming communities and their significant place in our country’s history.

Feilding and Districts Art Society, 104 Manchester St, Feilding

If you haven’t yet seen it, be sure to drop in to the Feilding and Districts Art Society to see the latest exhibition by Esther Nitschke MBE and her talented family.
The final day of the exhibition is Friday the 23rd of October.

Esther Nitschke MBE
Esther has been weaving for over 57 years and one of her very first exhibitions was at the Feilding Art Centre. Esther will be exhibiting her weaving and felting work and is thrilled to share this exhibition, back at the Feilding Art Centre, with her extremely talented family.

Sandra Hall
Sandra is an internationally recognised fibre artist in her own right. Sandra ran a successful smocking business for nearly 30 years but in 2010 whilst preparing for an exhibition on Waiheke Island she felt the need to change it up and add textile art to the exhibition. Sandra’s contemporary work incorporates copper, rusted old table cloths and doilies, pianola rolls, handmade silk paper, and discarded items juxtaposed against delicate needle craft. The result is stunning.

Neville Nitschke
Neville is based in Marton and has had an interesting variety of jobs over the years but it was working in tree felling that led to his interest in furniture making. Neville allows the shape and grain of the timber to dictate what final object will be. All of the pieces in the exhibition have been milled by Neville himself.

Stephanie Hall
Esther taught her granddaughter Stephanie to weave and she now weaves on a loom made by her late grandfather Bruce Nitschke. Stephanie say’s “Since starting knitting and weaving there is rarely a day that goes by that I don’t pick up the needles or shuttle and I find the planning and calculations speak to my analytical brain and the motion and creation is meditative”.

Michael Wells
Michael has been a member of the Kimbolton Fire Service for 20 years. He started experimenting with airbrush art whilst he had a young family but stepped away from it as life became busy. Recently has been honing his skills and enjoying creating again as he prepares for the upcoming exhibition.

Jackson Wells
10 year old Jackson brings us a photographic masterpiece - a self portrait he captured whilst riding his motorbike.

Bevis, a resident at Ryman’s Anthony Wilding Village, recently received a gentleman’s makeover. The day began at the barbershop where Bevis and his barber Kohl shared plenty of laughs. Next up, a personal stylist helped Bevis select clothes he looked and felt great in. Being pampered isn’t the norm for Bevis but based on his smile, we’re confident he loved every minute.

How to Stop Your Pet from Destroying Your Blinds

When there’s a something outside, the blinds just become a casualty of the resulting frenzy to get out there. Keep blinds raised part-way to allow your pup to see out and avoid wreckage. Avoid this issue by teaching your dog to stay calm in exciting situations.

Many dogs, especially as puppies, will chew on anything in sight. If your blinds have become your pets teething stick, it’s because he doesn’t have anything else to chew on. Deter dogs from gnawing on blinds by spraying slats with sour apple spray (available at pet stores). It smells and tastes terrible to dogs but is neutral to humans.

When you’re away from home, keep your dog in a safe room and give them special toys that are otherwise hidden away. Treat-filled toys and meat flavoured bones are especially appealing. With these toys to keep them preoccupied, they won’t think twice about the blinds.

Dogs can be like children; they have a lot of energy and it will find a way out whether you provide it or not. With this in mind, give your dog an opportunity to tire themselves out and your home might not become a race track.

What are the pet-friendliest window dressings?
Try vertical blinds. Furry friends can nudge slats out of the way to see out the window and they’ll fall back into place afterwards. If pets chew on blind slats, you can order individual replacements instead of getting a whole new set. If pet hair and grime are a problem, just wipe them clean with soap and water.

Venetian blinds have wide enough openings between slats for curious pets who just want to see out. But if you have a dog with a chewing problem, slats can be vulnerable to damage.

Roller shades are good window treatments for peeking pets. Animals can easily slip behind without damaging the shade and they’re easy to clean.

Try to avoid:
- Venetian Blinds - Bent slats. Enough said.
- Mini Venetian Blinds - Pets won’t be able to see through and will paw at slats.
- Puddled Drapes - When drapes drag on the floor it’s hard to keep them clean and free from pet hair

My dog broke my blinds, my curtains are ripped. Now what?
Don’t worry - paying full price for a replacement blind isn’t your only option. Curtain Clean not only specialises in cleaning your window treatments, but we can repair damage done by your beloved pet pals.

From replacing broken head tape to re-oiling wooden venetians, Curtain Clean are industry experts in restoring curtains and blinds for a fraction of the replacement cost. Bring your window dressings in for clean & repair today.

Fuel prices are not higher and if fuel drops should food drop too?

I think the supermarkets are raking in the smackaroos...all whilst we as a nation spend more money in the country...and having a bigger population due to returning kiwis...

If our lamb is cheaper overseas why so high here?

I bought 1kg of frozen chicken tenders pre lockdown for 9 bucks....went and got some yesterday and all of a sudden 950grams for 15 bucks???? Tegel...you ripping us off!

Have a look at your food you buy...quantity and price...very sneaky method of raking in the millions!
