About the Artist:
Graham Christensen lives on a farm near Palmerston North and paints from a large, light-filled studio – a converted room at the back of the barn.
He regularly exhibits throughout the Manawatu/Rangitikei region, including opening his studio annually for the Art Trail Manawatu.
Graham’s paintings depict his life-long love of farming and the unique landscape that New Zealand offers. His latest works are captured moments, many from his son’s beef farm in Pohangina Valley, that illustrate the peaceful beauty that surrounds us - if we take the time to look for it.
Graham was searching for a form of relaxation when he picked up a paint brush in his early 60’s - what he found was a life changing improvement in his mental health. Graham say’s “Painting is so peaceful, to me it’s like meditation. You are very mindful when you paint, you are concentrating on the paint and the movement of the brush. You’re not thinking about anything else and that makes my mind feel very still and spacious.”
Another benefit that he found, is that he now sees beauty in places he previously saw as ordinary. He’s always on the look out for inspiration or a new scene to paint and has learnt that by just taking a moment to stop and really look around, there is beauty everywhere. A mob of cows with their calves peacefully chewing their cud on a sunny afternoon, the contrast of light and the shadows along the fern-lined bank of a meandering stream, even a friendly conversation being held between farmers at the local sock yards invokes in the viewer a memory or a sense that you instinctively know that very scene - and are somehow part of the story.
A charity that is close to Graham’s heart is the Manawatu Rural Support Service, an organisation that specialises in supporting the stability and wellbeing of our local farmers and their families. The proceeds of the sale of ‘Ready for Shearing’ - included in this exhibition, will be donated to this wonderful and very essential, rural service.
Opening hours: Weekdays 10am - 4pm, Saturdays 10am - 1pm. *Waitangi Day - February 7th: 10am - 1pm

The latest leaflet is headed “Omicron = Moronic” in bold letters on one side. (This could be a useful anagram for crossword enthusiasts!)
On the other side there's a picture of Dr Ashleigh Bloomfield with a Pinnochio-style long nose and the heading “Do you trust him?”
With characteristically unconnected logic, these anonymous cowards quote some bald statistics derived from a medsafe website. At this point, the truth gives way to distortion. Their targets are threefold, namely reported harm, serious injury, and death from the Comirnaty Pfizer injection. They cite 41,506 reports of harm, 1,651 “SERIOUS” injuries, and 127 deaths after having the vaccine.
HARM
Medsafe collates data for AEFIs (adverse effect following immunisation) into ten categories, the most prevalent five of which account for two thirds of reported adverse effects. In decreasing order of frequency, they comprise: 1. Dizziness, 2. Headache, 3. Lethargy, 4. Injection site pain, and 5. Nausea. Up to 31 December 2021, 88,820 AEFIs were recorded.
I believe there are probably more adverse effects than this every Sunday morning in New Zealand resulting in dizziness, headache, lethargy and/or nausea after Saturday night on the booze. They just aren't recorded or of any public interest because cause and effect are so well known!
INJURIES
The leaflet claims there have been 1651 serious 'injuries'. Medsafe actually reports that there have been 2,015 “serious harm” reports up to 31 December 2021 out of a total of 45,984 AEFI reports.
DEATHS
The leaflet states that there have been “127 deaths of Kiwis from the Comirnaty Pfizer injection”. The actual Medsafe source of this data states: “Up to and including 31 December 2021, a total of 133 deaths were reported to CARM (Centre for Adverse Reactions Monitoring) after the administration of the Comirnaty vaccine. Following medical assessments by CARM and Medsafe it has been determined that:
54 of these deaths are unlikely related to the COVID-19 vaccine,
58 deaths could not be assessed due to insufficient information,
19 cases are still under investigation,
2 deaths were likely due to vaccine induced myocarditis (awaiting Coroner’s determination)”. That's just TWO DEATHS after having the vaccination, (not from the covid virus itself), in a population of over 5 million.
Saying that 127 deaths (officially 133) have been CAUSED by the vaccine is a gross distortion of the truth.
Fortunately, an overwhelming majority of Kiwis DO trust Dr Bloomfield and the underlying science, and do NOT trust the conspiracy extremists.

Hokitika has been named the most welcoming town in NZ in Booking.com's 10th annual Traveller Review Awards.
Would be keen to hear from those who live there or who have visited whether they think the town really is exceptionally friendly. What makes it a welcoming place, or otherwise? Were there any cafes, restaurants, shops or other places you received a particularly warm welcome?
Lake Tekapo and Oamaru came in second and third place respectively, followed by Cambridge, Picton, Invercargill, Martinborough, Kerikeri and Palmerston North. Would also love to hear from you if you have thoughts on these places. Please include 'NFP' (not for publication) in your comment if you don't want it to appear in a travel article.
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts?

Jacinda is now facing a problem that has never been faced before - a war on our own territory - and the poor lady just has no records to fall back on. Back in the 1940's when the UK was under threat, Parliament was dissolved and a co-alition was set in place. This gave us some very severe measures - rationing of many food items for instance - and people were requested, nay - forced to grow their own vegetables, have chooks in their backyards, trading amongst neighbours, local councils let out allotments for anyone to grow more vegetables. You just don't know how bad it could get - it least we are not putting up with air raids and bombing.
Give Jacinda a break, she's doing the best that she can, she doesn't need all the hindrance she's getting from the anti-vaxxers and the nay-sayers.
