Just had two of these scam calls about an hour apart: One was about $900.00 spent on Bitcoin. They got that out before I managed to put the receiver down. What you need to know:
- The recall is involving Christmas-themed duvets: Mrs & Mrs Claus Reversible Queen Size Bed Quilt Cover Set and Christmas Elf Reversible Single Bed Quilt Cover Set
- A recall of the products began in Australia following health concerns from several families.
- One woman said she thought she was having a heart attack after using one of the products which smelt of diesel.
- One customer said she’d purchased the quilt covers and said they smelled like gas. Another mum said hers did not have that smell but claimed her son developed a rash that only went away when he stopped using the product.
- The product is no longer available for purchase on the Kmart website.
Regardless of whether you have experienced an issue, customers who have purchased this item may return the product to store for a refund.

I noticed a while back that the shipping container on the piece of land next to Club Vista had disappeared.
On that container was the advertising for a hotel that was to be built there.
Because the container & advertising has gone, does that mean the hotel is no longer happening ?

As a teenage graffiti artist Theo Arraj once threw his mark across the water tower in his hometown, he dreamed with his mates about one day wrapping the entire structure with his art.
Decades later, professional mural artist Theo Arraj is finally living his dream.

In an exciting development for local spirits enthusiasts, Elsewhere Gin has released a limited edition Kapiti expression that truly captures the essence of our coastal region.
This unique gin, priced at $95 per bottle, is the result of a heartwarming collaboration between Elsewhere Gin and Mark Rose's parents and their friends in Kapiti who embarked on a community foraging adventure, handpicking an array of native botanicals including kohekohe, kauri tips, strawberry guava, horopito, and kawakawa. These locally sourced ingredients were combined with classic gin botanicals, lemon, and rosemary to create a spirit that is both familiar and distinctly Kapiti.
The gin offers a sensory journey through our coastal landscape. It opens with subtle vanilla notes from the kohekohe, followed by the sweetness of strawberry guava. The addition of horopito lends a peppery kick, while kawakawa adds a unique herbal complexity. The finish showcases the zesty lemon and aromatic rosemary that grow abundantly in our region.
"This gin is a love letter to Kapiti," says Rose. "It's not just my creation, but a true community effort. Every sip tells a story of our unique ecosystem, our shared knowledge, and the incredible flavors we have right here in our backyard."
With only a small batch produced, this Kapiti gin is expected to sell out quickly. It's more than just a drink; it's a bottled experience of our local terroir and community spirit, perfect for those who appreciate the finer aspects of craft spirits and the beauty of our coastal home.
Available exclusively through Elsewhere Gin, please contact Michael Anderson for this limited edition gin that offers a rare opportunity to taste the Kapiti coast - and its community - in a glass.

Rainfall was 33 percent above average, but most of the total 100mm fell over the first two weeks, with very dry conditions over the second two. Despite numerous, almost daily forecasts for possible showers nothing worthwhile arrived.
Our daily average maximum temperature of 19.3C was exactly the month’s longtime average and the same as last year, with the warmest day occurring on the last day of the month reaching 25C. As usual, our neighbours in eastern areas of central New Zealand were around a half degree warmer than us, but their overall mean temperatures were also the coldest, with Kāpiti and Lower Hutt being the warmest places..
Although our 13 equivalent days of sunshine were up two days on last November that was also cloudy, it was two fewer than average.
December should see most days reaching 20C, with an average of around 21.5C, and with our now heading into three weeks without worthwhile rain the dry conditions can be expected to continue.
