Unfortunately pests ignore the signs and still have to be dealt with in the Park. A group of volunteers has been trained to work in the bush where there is kauri dieback. Training involves attending a course and passing a test. Once qualified volunteers are issued with distinctive labelled vests for identification. Working among kauris where there is the risk of spreading kauri dieback involves observing the highest possible standard of cleanliness of equipment, especially footwear. This disease can be spread by microscopic fungal spores. Boots and equipment have to be cleaned and disinfected frequently with a special disinfectant, sterigene.
Workers have to keep well clear of the root systems of kauri trees. The infection spreads into the trees through damaged roots. Stands of kauri have interlocking root systems so it can be quite challenging working in a stand. Boots and equipment has to be cleaned when moving from one stand to another. It is to be hoped a prevention and a cure can soon be found for this horrible kauri affliction.
Volunteers working with rangers are illustrated.

Could anybody fix this or advise me on where to take for repair? Fell over while vacuuming before we had even hung it on the wall. Glass is intact, the frame broken but looks like it is salvageable.
TIA :) Mobile is 02108227944.

To help, Stuff has launched KEA Kids News - a twice-weekly video bulletin of news by kids for kids.
Just like the smart and curious kea, our inquisitive kid reporters will peck through local, national and international news to find stories and ask questions that connect with seven to 11-year-olds, to show them that truth is not only stranger than fiction but often a lot more interesting.
