At an extraordinary meeting of the New Plymouth District Council on Tuesday, councillors agreed to adopt speed management guiding principles based on a recommendation from the NZTA.
This could pave the way for an 80kmh limit on country roads without additional engineering as far south as Oakura and as far north as the regional boundary just south of Mōkau, not including state highways. A district-wide speed limit review was also approved.
