Hi, all you Packhouse Cinema goers, and to any new people who think they might like to go to the movies which we’ve been showing for the last 6+ years
So, If the Covid levels stay as they are, we plan to show the movie "Submarine" on Sunday, 17th July at 6.30 pm in the Mapua Community Hall. Bring your own chair and drinks etc if you wish, but please be prepared to stay in your own bubble, with a wee space between you and the next bubble
Some of us go to the Sprig & Fern for a meal at around 5pm, and there will be a table reserved for any who would like to join us.
We look forward to seeing you there.
All income from this event will go towards the Mapua Community Hall!
Movie starts at 6:30, doors open at 6:15pm
Cheers,
Di & Peter, Reinhard & Angelika
“Submarine”
Showing at Mapua’s “Packhouse Cinema’ @ 6:30pm Sunday 17th July
15 year old Oliver has two objectives: To lose his virginity before his next birthday and to extinguish the flame between his mother and her ex-boyfriend.
Precocious Oliver struggles with being popular in school but when Jordana a dark-haired beauty takes an interest in him, he's determined to become the best boyfriend in the world. Meanwhile, his parents' already rocky relationship is threatened when his mother's ex-boyfriend moves in next door.
Dead pan humour is the order of the day with Submarine. Understated lines such as "my mum gave a hand job to a mystic" could go unnoticed by an inattentive audience.
Casting Craig Roberts as Oliver Tate was a masterstroke and much of the film's success is based on his performance. The imaginative and peculiar schoolboy analyses everything, often conjuring up fictional events which parody mainstream movies.
Submarine is a simple coming of age story, without the solid plot of the British film veterans. In essence the narrative follows two strands, the relationship between Oliver and Jordana and between Oliver and his family. Trying to date Jordana and reignite the spark between his parents isn't a small task, not that that fazes Oliver.
Submarine is devilishly funny and a true gem which could become a DVD cult movie.
At last months movie showing we had an audience of only 10 paying customers, which is not nearly enough money to cover the cost of the licence fee for a movie. If we do not attract sufficient audience numbers this month, we may not be able to carry on showing movies at the Mapua Hall.

Peter Williams presentation on 3 Waters: youtu.be...
The most appalling aspect of 3 waters is that democracy is being bulldozed aside as though it has no place in our New Zealand. Democracy is the cornerstone of any government in the free world - one person one vote. That should never be compromised without a referendum open to EVERYONE who is a citizen of New Zealand. Three Waters is a divisive document; racism being introduced as government policy, setting Māori New Zealanders, against all other New Zealanders. 16% of the population (iwi) should never be "gifted" 50% of the vote just because of who their great grandparents were. We are one people, we are New Zealanders, all of us. We are a liberal democracy where all people are born free and equal in dignity and rights.
Then, there is the taking away of ratepayers assets with absolutely no recourse to holding the hierarchy of 3 Waters accountable for their actions, they will not be answerable to the ratepayers: ratepayers will not have voting rights to remove them from their positions! And the logic behind lumping the top of the South in with half the North Island beggars belief..! Added to that, how can a reduction in cost to ratepayers be touted by 3 Waters, when the statement is made that in addition to all those currently employed, another 6000-9000 people will be employed..! The only honest thing about 3 Waters is that some where, some districts, do need to have better water. So why not just target those areas with an injection of expertise and funds and fix their problem..? Otherwise, this is all an asset grab by the Labour Government using the He Puapua document, which will also allow Māori elite to be elevated into positions they cannot be voted out of, and with powers that will enable the harvesting of royalties for the use of water.
Three Waters is not only undemocratic it is outrageously unjust. It is beyond belief for any sane and sensible person to consider this plan as the ONLY option to cure poor water systems that are supposedly in EVERY council throughout New Zealand: and that iwi, who are only 16% of the population, become entitled to 50% of the vote. Democracy should under no circumstances be compromised…
Three Waters doesn’t only compromise democracy, it removes it, without shame, or fear, or the consultation of ALL New Zealanders.. say NO to Three Waters..!
At the local body elections, vote for councillors who are against 3 waters. Save our assets and our democracy..
