Quite happy until I drove past the Self Service Auto Wash in Nelson. People washing their cars with copious amounts of water and suds...... With a sprinkler and hose ban in effect, I am completely dismayed? As a window cleaner who has invested thousands of dollars to use a Pure Water System to make my job easier, I have ceased doing this, and got back on a ladder to conserve water. I'm now in two minds as to whether these restrictions apply to me? I would love to know what justification these guys have unless they are getting water tankers in from outside of Nelson. Please tell me this is the case? I understand Health & Safety, but this is not to clean some windows, it's the whole car.

It caught a mouse recently which I found today so I put it down still in the trap to bury later and the weka have stolen it...an easy meal I totally understand but the traps are no longer procurable and its the only one I have found that really works. Council teams are now working through the process of doing safety inspections of the main tracks and trails in the catchment and forestry reserves. This includes the Roding, Maitai, Marsden Valley, Brook and Atmore Reserves.
Once these inspections have been completed and subject to final approval from Fire and Emergency New Zealand, these reserves are likely to be open for the weekend.
Good news: The rainfall overnight in the Maitai Dam catchment area has seen the water level rise by an impressive 930mm.
Nelson City Council is now able to move back to Stage Two restrictions in urban areas.
You can now hand water your gardens by hose (one hose at a time).
