• Reach Out - Wave, say ‘Kia Ora!’ or introduce yourself. Welcome new residents to your street when they move in.
• Look Out Help keep your community safe by looking out for your neighbours. If something doesn’t look right let them know or get help if needed.
• Help Out Share any surplus from your garden or fruit trees. Offer to take the rubbish out for someone who needs a hand. Take time to have a chat with someone who lives alone.

There are many ways you can make a difference in your community!

Neighbours that know each other are more likely to offer assistance, accept and ask for help when they need it.

Let’s build a stronger Aotearoa by staying more connected.

Such was the volume of traffic, that Sunday - not a business day - diversion added 28 minutes to my journey, underlining just how crucially essential it is for Nelson to have its long overdue security of a third arterial road.

Today, Monday, Rocks Road is closed again - this time by the weather.

I hope every driver who on Sunday was enormously inconvenienced - along with every other thinking Nelson resident - will see to it that none of these councillors are returned next election.

Should Emano St be changed to its correct name of Te Manu St?

Carly Gooch Reporter from The Nelson Mail

Imagine if Stoke was actually meant to be St Oak, or Rich Mound, had been misheard as Richmond, would you like it changed to its correct name? Formerly known as Emano East Reserve, it's been given its correct Māori name of Te Manu Reserve - so should Emano St be changed?

This month we’re celebrating the diverse array of people who call New Zealand home. Regardless of our different faiths, abilities, cultures, ages, orientations and genders - we want to make sure that our communities are safe and welcoming for all.

There are many ways to take part! From hosting a multicultural potluck or film screening to providing prevention information / resources in other languages, there are thousands of ways big and small to make our households, neighbourhoods, schools and businesses even more inclusive. It could even be as simple as learning from a neighbour how to say ‘hello’ in their first language or ensuring local footpaths are clear and accessible.

Want to share your thoughts? Let us know how you’re creating inclusive communities this month by tagging us in your social media posts or emailing us your photos, videos, or experiences to: admin@tsns.org.nz

Cardrona hut - what no windows?

Colleen Hawkes Reporter from Homed

Looks can be deceiving - there are hidden windows in this all-timber show home in Cardrona. But the real feature is the use of Abodo thermally modified timber, which can replace the need for imported materials, such as cedar or kwila. Sustainability at its best.
