Planter boxes installed in the settlement of Māpua have raised the ire of the community. The boxes are part of a Streets for People pilot project aimed at finding low cost ways to make streets safer for people walking and cycling.
But, commentary on the Tasman District Council’s Facebook post about the 18 boxes ranged from those worried about the loss of parking spaces for local businesses to accusations of the traffic calming measure being part of the “2030 agenda” in which individuals will “own nothing”.
What's your view of the planter boxes?

The decision is in lieu of a planned play space on Bridge St, at the site of the eBus bus hub. But, some councillors questioned the location, saying the council was committed to building a playground to help “activate” and bring people into the city centre, and Rutherford Park was too out of the way.
What do you think? Is Rutherford Park central enough?

We’re looking for the nicest neighbours in town, and Pam Driver of Burswood has shared her lovely neighbours, David and Lara Hurst, saying they “are just wonderful”.

This year, Pam had a missing cat, which was quite out of character. Driver let the Hursts know, and they joined the search, successfully locating him in the gap between the ceiling and roof of their neighbour’s house.

Pam said “They rescued him and brought him home to me... complete with some scratches! I hate to think what would have happened had he not been found”.

Pam nominated the Hursts to let them know she is thankful for them: “It’s so good to know I have such caring neighbours who have my back. Thank you neighbours!”

Nominate someone in your hood, and your special neighbour could feature on Stuff and Neighbourly as an inspiration to us all (plus there are prizes to be won!).
