Spark have recently announced a price increase of $3 - $5 a month for new and existing broadband customers and other providers seem likely to follow suit.

Information collated by our research team has found that tens of thousands of Kiwis are still missing out on hundreds of dollars of savings each year on their broadband bill, because they are failing to shop around for cheaper broadband plans.

We estimate that over 500,000 households would be able to pay less for their broadband each month but many consumers are unaware of the fact that they could be making these savings and people often don’t know where to start when looking for a change in broadband plan or provider.

This is where NZ Compare can help. Our websites are simple to use and if you need more help, our friendly, Auckland based, customer support centre can advise on the most suitable broadband plan for your needs and help talk you through the switch. With unlimited fibre broadband plans available for less than $60 a month why would you pay more?

Find out more at NZ Compare or call the team on 0508 226672

CORRECTION: This post has been amended to clarify that the price of fibre and copper broadband internet services will increase, and that the increase is between $3 and $5 a month, not only $5 a month on fibre broadband plans as previously posted. (Amended at 10.31am, June 23, 2022)

Nelson Council is looking for public input to the very important arts strategy. There is now an impressive and ambitious strategy document available to read. (Link below) There are many excellent elements but one, in particular, needs more discussion.
There are 5 ‘ Key Moves’ in the strategy and one is:

“Te Tauihutanga design and identity project. Greater recognition, resourcing, and visibility of Toi Māori in our city.”

Under this section is the following proposal:

“Development of a strong Toi Māori Plan to lift the presence of Ngā Toi Māori in the city ahead of Te Matatini through a combination of investment attraction and ensuring that at least 50% of public arts expenditure is supporting Toi Māori projects.”

This is a very significant proposal and opens up the question of whether public funding should be allocated on the basis of merit or quota allocation based on ethnic criteria.

It is also worth noting that the strategy has five ‘pillars’, one of which is ‘identity’. That section talks about the way colonisation has affected tangata whenua and Te Tauihu. The result is that the :

‘special imprint of tangata whenua of this region is not seen or heard in the way it should be.’

This is a valid point but it’s important to also recognise the identity of other ethnic groups who comprise a multi cultural community. Nelson prides itself on its ethnic diversity but there is no explicit mention in this 55 page document of their needs and aspirations in the context of the future of arts in the city.

If you want to submit an opinion on any aspect of the strategy then go to:

Submissions close 26th July 2022.

This Thursday, July 21, a local band called A Little will entertain you with their upbeat music. And while you relax, your kids can enjoy facilitated and free games.
A Little is a young 3-piece band (a lead singer, guitar and percussion) that was established after open mic jams.
They mostly play upbeat grovy internationally known songs, so you are in for a real treat!
The band is a mix of styles, people and characters: the lead singer is originally from Canada, the guitar player is from Brazil and the percussionist is from Auckland. This mix brings quite an interesting vibe to their music, that's for sure.
