When a child goes missing, a community always wants to come together to help and they often do this on Facebook. We are honored to announce today that in partnership with New Zealand Police, the Facebook AMBER Alert system will now be available in New Zealand as a vital tool to find and return missing children. The Facebook AMBER Alert provides the police with the ability to issue an immediate alert on Facebook with key details about a missing child to people in the specific geographic location. Civil Defence invites everyone who lives or works in Marewa-Napier South to attend a community meeting to talk about our hazards that can cause an emergency. It is important we understand the potential impacts of those hazards and have thought about how we will look after each other and ourselves when this happens.

This community meeting is being organised by the Marewa-Napier South Community Resilience Planning Team; a group of local people collaborating with Civil Defence to enable us to look after ourselves before, during, and after an emergency.

Recent events highlight the need for us to be prepared. Please support this very important initiative - come along to the meeting and bring your friends and neighbours too.

Hungry, wet, cold and stressed is no way to start the school day (if it doesn’t stop them from getting to school) but for over 295,000 Kiwi children living in hardship that is the reality. This can impact their educational growth and lead to a lifelong pattern of underachievement. There is a way to break this cycle; by providing simple things like food, shoes, socks and raincoats, so kids can arrive at school ready and able to learn. KidsCan's aim is to prevent children in hardship from becoming adults in hardship by giving them the start in life they deserve.
