Port of Napier partial sale - conflict of interest?

Pauline from Hospital Hill

Port sale: conflict of interest - real or imagined? See Bruce Bisset's column in today's paper and what we can expect thanks to an Aussie called Stephen Bradford, appointed to the Port of Napier Board in 2014 under Andrew Newman's reign (remember HBRIC - their specialty was setting up holding companies to keep regional council at arms length from "complicated" financial investments): A company called Flagstaff Partners Pty Ltd, a 100 per cent subsidiary of Flagstaff Partners Holdings (formerly called HoldKing), is a "mergers and acquisitions" corporate advisory firm based in Melbourne. STEPHEN BRADFORD has been a "senior adviser" with the firm for several years. BRADFORD was CEO of Port of Melbourne Corporation from January 2004-December 2013. BRADFORD then became specialist adviser to Flagstaff on the Port of Melbourne "transaction" (2016), which resulted in that publicly-owned port being commercially leased out for a 50-year term. BRADFORD was also involved (2015) in a scoping study for the Northern Territory Government examining the future of Darwin's port – which was ultimately leased out to Chinese interests on a 99-year term, causing a stir with the US over its strategic value. BRADFORD is currently chairman of Tasports, which runs all major ports in Tasmania.
BRADFORD'S involvement with Napier Port began in November 2014 with his appointment (by HBRC) to the port's board for a three-year term. The port board and the council began discussing a planned expansion and how to finance it at the beginning of 2016.
BRADFORD resigned from the port board in July 2018, saying while he had a "minor role" with Flagstaff he was resigning on account of a "public perception" of conflict of interest, rather than an actual one. (He'd done his job.) GREAT INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISM... THANKS Bruce Bisset. www.nzherald.co.nz...

Huge thanks to Coleen Davey and Linda Walsh who organised today's 26th Annual Memorial Service for New Zealand Murder Victims.

Today's Ceremony was held at Albert Square, Hastings.

It was sobering to listen to the Roll Of Honour read allowed, to hear the names, ages and years that people had died at the hand of another person. To see the photos of children who never grew up to see their future and not live out the hopes and dreams of what could have been, was heartbreaking.

It was my privilege and honour to help lead today's service and to meet the family members who came to give tribute and honour their person. However, when I looked in their eyes and greeted them with a handshake, I felt sadness and grief. To hear an older man talk of his son who was killed when he was 50 years old and to realise that as parents our babies are always our babies no matter how old they are and to have someone take a child away is beyond all understanding. To watch a grown woman cry because her father was killed 20 years ago - she looks so young, how old could she have been?

When I grew up in Napier in the '70s and '80s, I remember what happened to our community as we grieved the loss of those who were slain as victims of kidnapping and homicide.
Later in the early '90s, I lived in Dunedin, and again, I recall my friends who were taken at the hand of another person.

I cannot begin to imagine how life has been for the survivors of homicide victims, but without a doubt, I can say "I am so very sorry, and my deepest love is with surviving family and friends."

Thanks for listening, Neighbours and Friends. Also, thanks to Mayor Sandra Hazelhurst for attending today and joining with others in their open speeches of unity. Coleen Davey and Linda Walsh and Linda's mum Joanne are wonderful volunteers to organise the event for today and bring us together. Thank you.

Internet outages

Kim from Karamu - Waipatu

Is anyone else having problems with their internet ?
We are on copper connection ADSL
We can go days without a problem with very good speeds. Then randomly we get constant disconnections throughout a day or two. Phoned Spark and just get the usual response that it must be a problem at our end.

But today I was talking to someone who has the exact same problem.

I have tried different modems connected to different jack outlets and have the same problem.

It is definitely an issue outside of our property.
