His railway line includes Manapouri St Station – named after his street.

A week on from their decision, Woof! co-owners Josh Thomas and Dudley Benson have seen a record number of patrons.
Thomas and Benson said their bar and eatery served a diverse community, most of whom were concerned with easing Covid-19 restrictions.
From April 4, amid declining Covid-19 cases overall, businesses like theirs no longer needed to see a vaccine pass before allowing people to dine-in.
In Dunedin, however, cases haven't been declining. After a survey of patrons, the co-owners decided they would keep the vaccine pass system for the time being, and would review it week to week.
The decision sparked the ire of online trolls, whose abuse became increasingly homophobic once news reached the United States, Benson wrote on Twitter.
“Many seemed threatened by my nail polish.”
In a separate tweet, Benson said of the 1232 groups the business had welcomed since April 4, only one person did not want to show a vaccine pass.
“They politely moved on,” he said.
The abuse continued online after Benson decided to contact the people leaving fake one-star reviews, “to hold them [to] account”.
Some commenters took issue with Benson contacting the people leaving fake reviews, even though the reviews lowered the bar's rank online, adding to the abuse.
Google has since removed several of the fake one-star reviews, including some five-star reviews supporters made to try and balance the reviews.
Thomas and Benson declined to speak to Stuff, but gave permission to use information they published on Twitter.
Meanwhile, case numbers in Otago and Southland had surpassed worst case predictions, according to modelling provided to the Southern District Health Board.
On Monday, there were 7847 active Covid-19 cases in the Southern region – the second-highest in the country by district health board area, behind Canterbury on 11,683.

ODT article submitted today 22.03.2022
I was expecting delivery of a $800 package and paid $40 for the sender to obtain a signature upon delivery service. This was out of concern for repeated delivery failures by NZ post and NZ post delivering my packages at the wrong address 4 time in a row.
I would receive an email alert on the expected day thru the delivery updates alerts I activated and receive an alert that the package was delivered. When I check my mailbox within minutes, there would be no package waiting for me. I lodged a complaint immediately and only received one of those packages after the courier rectified the delivery the next day but still maintained it was delivered to the correct address. This happened as recently as last week the 15th of March where I was waiting at home for deliver and received the email alert the package that was delivered at 2.48pm. I checked the mailbox and there was nothing. I lodged a complaint immediately and the next morning it arrived.
I was expecting delivery of a $800 package and paid $40 for the sender to obtain a signature upon delivery service to avoid the incompetence received. I waited and again, only received the email alert that the package has arrived. I ran to the mailbox and found the 36cmX27cm box left at the door exposed to the rainy weather that morning, an $800 electronic device just left in the rain with clear instructions to obtain signature.! I was livid and lodged another complaint to NZ post immediately demanding a refund of the $40 I paid for obtaining the signature upon arrival.
Today I received the response from Service Delivery Manager for Dunedin & Surrounding Area Michelle Finigan stating:
Quote: “I wanted to update you on the investigation that I have been looking into regarding your item that was left under ATL. I have been informed that at the time of delivery there was no one hm to sign for this item.
You do have an authority to leave on your address in our system, which is why it was left without obtaining a signature. If you would no longer like the ATL you are able to go to our website and authorize this to be taken off our system.
I have spoken with the driver to ensure for any future deliveries the ATL is followed correctly which is item to be left at back door." unquote
My Rebuttal:
Firstly, the driver is blatantly lying about nobody being home. Of course, I was home since I paid $40 for the service to sign for it upon arrival! and now I am called a liar by the incompetent driver as well. This is just getting worse!
Today I received another "signature required" $90 package that was delivered without obtaining a signature. It was just left in the open view at the sliding door in full view of the sidewalk as the $800 package was left. Complaint lodged again.
In their response to serious complaint such as this NZ Post appears to adopt the attitude that the driver made no error despite evidence provided by the customer & witnesses that contradicts this. No refund for the undelivered service is mentioned despite customer demands for refund they are fully entitled to. This must stop immediately. If you had similar experiences as this, please notify ODT so that we as paying customers can hold these businesses to account. They are ripping off their customers daily.
