OUSA made national headlines when it bought the bar, known to generations of former students as The Oriental, in December 2018.
That bar, which reopened in time for Orientation 2019, was designed to be “a safe entertainment option for students, particularly first-year students”, events manager Jason Schroeder said.
But the bar, which has been shut since the nationwide lockdown, will remain closed due to health and safety concerns about the building. OUSA is now looking for an alternative venue.

Self-employed mechanic Dean Rankin has initiated the move through a petition calling for the Local Government Commission to review the structure of the Queenstown Lakes District Council.
He needed the support of at least 10 per cent of local voters, or about 1500 people, to push for change and had hit 1200 on Wednesday morning.
Rankin would like to see the Upper Clutha area, including Wānaka, Hawea, Luggate and Makarora, establish its own council.
What do you think of Rankin's proposal? Read more here and tell us what you think in the comments below.

Southland father and son, Robert and Bobby Baird have recently received their forestry qualifications, proving you are never too old to learn.
While Robert has practical experience gained during four decades in the bush, he says vocational training like the qualification he has just done is helping keep people safe.
Competenz assessor Neville Muir worked with Bairds throughout their training programme.
“Bobby is very driven to succeed and very organised. He’s also very keen to continue upskilling his crew and there are a lot of different certificates still to do,” he says.
While Bobby is his boss at work, Robert turns back into ‘dad’ at the end of the day. “I give him a hand during the day when he’s got a lot of work on. We have a great relationship and it’s a magic thing to be able to do to work with your son.”
