The majority of cases that Age Concerns work with involves older people living in their own homes. In most instances it is family members like adult children who perpetrate elder abuse or neglect.

Speaker : Jessica Finucane of Big Brothers Big Sisters. This organisation offers quality mentoring relationships for young people in New Zealand. Their mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of youth through professionally supported mentoring relationships. They provide tamariki (young kiwi kids) with a trained mentor. They match young people between the age of 6 and 12 years with a mentor until the young person turns 18. See bigbrothersbigsisters.org.nz...
Incidentally - the NZ Defence Force has become a corporate member of BPW NZ (as well as signing up to the Women's Empowerment Principles www.weps.org.nz...) so any member of the NZ Army, Navy or Air Force will be warmly welcomed to our meetings as a member. When Erich Krogmann started the Food and Beverage Level 2 qualification, he had to learn how to balance study with a night job and a young family, but his main challenge came in the form of his hearing disability.
Erich says he thinks he’s inspired other people with a disability to take on training.
