What do you think of the nine-month toxic chemical clean-up underway?

Denise Piper Reporter from Whangārei Leader

Authorities are bearing the $3m costs of a nine-month clean-up of a toxic chemical stockpile at Marsden Point, Ruakaka, but hope to recover the costs from the companies involved. The work is so dangerous, regular monitoring is needed to test for explosive or flammable air.

Medieval Madness 2021 at Kiwi North is now unfortunately CANCELLED.
Sadly, and after much deliberation, we have made the call to cancel our Medieval Madness event, scheduled for this Sunday 31st.
With the recent positive COVID case in the area and the wide area of possible exposure we feel this is the responsible action to take.

We simply cannot risk the well-being of our community, the event stakeholders, club members, volunteers, staff and our organisation with so many unknowns at this time. We wanted to make the decision early enough to save the expenses and travel of all of those involved.

Yet again this cancellation is another COVID first for us but we look forward to our Kiwi North Easter Sunday Family Fun Day , 4th April.

The Museum, Kiwi House and Heritage Park remain open as normal, 10am to 4pm daily.

Stay safe everyone and look after each other.

I've seen them cone kilometers of Kamo bypass when there was one small truck parked there and one guy working 20m off the road, cutting scrub. I've seen them several times drive down the highway at 20-30 km/h while they are not working, no road works near by, but flashing their lights and collecting kilometer long queues; both north and south of Whangarei. I've seen them putting 3 stop and go guys on an intersection that normally works just fine with 80km/h traffic flowing both ways on the highway, after they had closed the road to single lane, 50km/h, one direction only and the work was under way hundreds of meters away.
