The Moon has been a constant source of fascination for thousands of years all across the world. This exhibition brings together a 5m diameter scale model of the Moon and explores the mythological, the scientific and cultural importance of our nearest neighbour and its role in marking Matariki.
See the Moon up close, find out what it smells like and what mythology is around it in this hands-on and interactive exhibition. Find craters on the Moon, the Sea of Tranquility, learn about the Maramataka and even build a space station! There are whānau activities and public programmes with this exhibition. What you need to know:
- Adelaide Road is expected to be closed during the morning and congestion around this area is likely.
- Residents in the area should stay inside with their windows and doors closed: The Asthma and Respiratory Foundation NZ is warning Wellingtonians to look after their respiratory health. For those with severe respiratory conditions, like asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or bronchitis, the smoke can cause flare ups. It is understood that the building contains asbestos, meaning that toxic particles from this material could also become airborne and pose additional risk.
