ACC Minister Hon. Iain Lees-Galloway recently swapped his suit for shorts and a tee to join a ‘Live Stronger for Longer’ strength and balance class. These classes help us as we age to retain lower body and core strength, remaining active to avoid falls.

No-one is bullet proof, falls happen and some can result in broken bones, pain and long healing times and can also make us fearful of falling again. Losing confidence can really affect quality of life.

Live Stronger for Longer strength and balance classes are growing nationwide. Visit www.livestronger.org.nz and join a class near you, you’ll find lots of practical information, advice and resources on how to live an active, healthy and independent life.

Proudly brought to you by ACC, MoH, HQSC and your local community health providers.

I have a Yamaha keyboard for sale which comes in its original box with a keyboard stand, chair, music stand, and song book plus owner's manual. Has also a new power plug.

Multi-functional design, with ability to record own music, and MIDI input/output and headphones jacks. Excellent for any player level. Works perfectly, however is missing the sustain button (see picture). Fortunately, keyboard has a sustain pedal output and pedal can be bought at either Music Works/Music Warehouse.

If you are or if you know of anyone/school/organisation who is interested or would like more information, please message me. Thanks!

Price: $300

My Food Bag was launched Wairarapa this week and they agreed to give my family and I a free trial.
We got our week's package sent around on Monday morning.
Pretty fancy. It was all packed up in a multi-compartment recyclable box with wool insulation and ice packs to keep the perishables cool.
Lots of little My Food Bag-branded packages of condiments, cheeses, sauces and dry goods.
Included in the first box was the ring binder for easy storage of menus and of course the first week's menu plan and recipes.
It pays to take a few minutes to look through the recipes and assemble the ingredients accordingly.
Once we were organised, it was a ten-minute prep job with another 15 minutes to cook.
Our first meal was Asian steamed fish (moki) with Jasmine rice and steamed vegetables.
With a family of five (two adults, three kids 11,10, and 6) there was enough for all but not oodles left over.
The meal was extremely popular with everyone including the kids. The middle child even ate the spinach which was a big win for him.
The menu suggested leaving the spicy sauce to the side for the kids but our guys woofed it down sauce and all.
Conclusion: big thumbs up for the first meal of the week.
We will keep posting this week for the remaining four meals.
Remember we will draw the winner of a one-week free trial of My Food Bag for a Wairarapa Neighbourly member at the end of this month.

A new type of service club is emerging which aims to modernise these important community organisation and keep them relevant for future generations.
Ruamahanga Lions in Wairarapa is one of the international organisation's cyber clubs which eschews regular meetings and uses technology at its heart.
Club secretary Jennifer Taylor said their emphasis on using technology to organise themselves and get together just for projects.
Taylor said many younger people have a desire to contribute to their communities but may not have time for fortnightly dinners or other regularly meetings that the traditional club organise.
Lions International has just rolled out its own app which can be used as a centralised communication hub with facilities such as instant message and a news feed to keep members in touch with club activities.
"Lions International, and New Zealand, are trying to lift their technology game in response to changing times and trying to attract younger generation," Taylor said.
Ruamahanga Lions is a mixed gender club and has only been going a year.
The club has a contract with the Department of Conservation to look after Anzac Bridge Reserve south of Eketahuna.
The club is planting more natives at the reserve on 4 August and they welcome volunteers.
Club president Sandy Hayes said the cyberclub model is working well and they are all able to keep in touch with the club's activities online.
She said the club is going well and they are happy to welcome new members.
She said many of their members work in Wellington so they would find it difficult attending meetings, so the cyber option is ideal.
The club has its own Facebook page Friends of Ruamahanga Lions
