Hi neighbours,

Many people setting up paddling pools for their children this summer will be breaking the law - are you one of them?

Any pool, fixed or portable, deeper than 400mm is now subject to safety provisions under the Building Act, meaning there a quite a few rules you probably aren't even aware of.

For example, do you have a 1.2-metre fixed childproof fence with a self-closing gate opening outwards?

What are your thoughts on paddling pool safety? If faced with an inspection, would your pool set-up pass? Do you think all these rules are essential? What are your tips for setting up a paddling pool safely?

I've been involved with food rescue and the Masterton food bank for about 6 months now, and I'm on the scrounge.
Last week the food bank had a minor freezer crisis, where one of the chest freezers broke down. Fortunately we managed to get some borrowed freezer space at one of the local food retailers, so the immediate problem was taken care of. But that leaves the issue of replacing the broken freezer. I've taken it upon myself to see if I can help. Thus, the scrounge.
It occurred to me that people in our community might have, or know someone that has an old chest freezer in working condition, that is sitting around unneeded and taking up space in a garage. If anyone does have one that they can donate to the Masterton food bank it would be hugely appreciated. Its value would be a tax deductible donation. I would make arrangements to uplift it, and clean it if necessary.
The size we require is a chest type, around 350 to about 500+ litres, and in working condition.
So if there's anyone that can help out please reach out to me here or at my email address: rancdanc@gmail.com
