Like the rest of the developed world, New Zealand has an ageing population. This means there are some things we must consider and prepare for as a country.

Better Later Life takes a fresh look at what is required to ensure New Zealand is a great place to age and achieve the vision of making sure older people lead valued, connecting and fulfilling lives.

The strategy's key areas for action will be used to guide the priorities of what needs to happen in our action plan.

We have just received a call from an Asian person advising that they were calling from the ANZ Anti fraud Dept and that there was someone in China or an Asian country wanting to debit our visa account of a large amount of money, and they needed our details to block the transaction.
I said would call him back.
He said his name was Mark William and the pnone number he gave for me to call back was 09 88927663
I rang ANZ Visa and they said this was a scam that they would not call about any such thing and if they did it would be an 0800 number not a private number.
I rang the number he gave and as soon as i answered the phone was hung.
Please be aware do not give these people any details at all.

Jo and Rachel talked about what's going on in their own backyards and suggested some edible crops you can sow and grow yourself. Jo gave a masterclass in planting tomatoes, the pair discussed peeing on lemon trees and keeping cats out of your vege beds, and Rachel talked to a Central Otago gardener who has to deal with extreme temperatures, extreme drought... and temperamental donkeys. You can also follow the conversation on Spotify and Stitcher. Let your friends know too!

More than a dozen Wairarapa gardeners are excited to be opening their private gardens for Pūkaha’s ninth annual fundraiser this weekend.
“The gardeners have been working so hard preparing their private gardens to welcome the public this weekend,” says organiser Rachael Dell. She’s been visiting the gardens this week and can sense the excitement building – for gardeners and ticket holders.

“These are such generous Wairarapa people – passionate gardeners who balance jobs, studies, families, and busy lives to open their gorgeous gardens to support Pūkaha. In the spirit of community, this is an event that relies on strong relationships. Everyone involved – from the gardeners to the volunteers - are all working in partnership to celebrate Pūkaha Mt Bruce, a Wairarapa Taonga,” says Rachael.

Spring weather in the Wairarapa is turning it on and the gardens are looking stunning.

Gardens open on Saturday and Sunday – 9.30am-4.30pm. This year’s tour features eight new gardens, and five that have never opened to the public before. The route centres mainly in and around Masterton and extends to Eketāhuna, taking tourgoers past Pūkaha national wildlife centre.
Tickets and information about the gardens can be found at www.wairarapagardentour.co.nz... or purchase tickets through i-sites in Masterton, Martinborough and Carterton Events Centre.
