Work is progressing well in Hargreaves Street, as we pour the concrete floor and walls in the chamber, and finish off the pipe installation. We are on track to open up the bottom of Hargreaves Street by the end of the month in preparation for the Wallace Street road closure happening from December 8.
We’ve taken a few photos from around the current work site, as well as inside the chamber at Hargreaves Street so you can see what it looks like under the surface.

The initiative, which was only held in Masterton last year, was so successful it is being rolled out Wairarapa wide this … View moreThe festive season is fast approaching and Tranzit is once again part of Pack the Bus, an amazing Christmas gift and food drive that benefits the wider Wairarapa community. The initiative, which was only held in Masterton last year, was so successful it is being rolled out Wairarapa wide this month.
The idea of this campaign is to pack the Tranzit Coachlines bus full of donated Christmas gifts and treats (including non-perishable food items) which will be donated to the Wairarapa food banks, who in turn distribute them to individuals and families in need this Christmas.
Beginning on November 27th with a special launch at Property Brokers in Masterton, Pack the Bus will run for three weeks with several community “park-up” events being held in Masterton, Carterton, Greytown, Featherston and Martinborough. In addition, separate “park-ups” will be held at local schools and the bus will make a guest appearance at the Masterton, Greytown and Martinborough Christmas Parades

We’re not sure who decided that Black Friday was suddenly a ‘thing’ down in our part of the world, so, as us Kiwis tend to do, we thought we’d put our own spin on it instead. One that is much more focused on community over consumerism, and equally about giving as it is about getting.

Kicking off today and running through 'til Monday 2 December, we are doing our annual buy-one-give-one campaign.

Selling a few extra ducks. They were born about the 8th of August and have been more or less free range since. They are mostly grey but some have dark green on their backs. $20 each.
I have about 9 of these plants but have decided a hedge along the front is not what I want. I'm ok with plants but hedges are not my thing really.

The plants are very easy to access and just need digging up. I'm not sure how they would transplant but with a good dollop of water regularly they should come away if cut back to one third or half of their height.
I do know name the name of them but it slips my memory at the moment. They are a well known hedging plant.
I've photographed most of the row and three individual plants. They are about a metre high at the moment.

On Saturday we contained the sewer leak by diverting it out of the stormwater network back into the wastewater network. We are awaiting test results on the harbour quality, and will share an update as soon as these are received.

Crews are continuing works to investigate and repair the leak which is expected to continue throughout this week, with the potential to continue into next week depending on investigations.
We will share an update on the expected time frame around the works on Friday 29 November.

It’s an important part of the investigation work for the proposed Cross Harbour Pipeline, which aims to provide Wellington with an alternative water supply.
Some of the work needs to be done at night and the crew are focused on minimising the level of noise. The barge has also had acoustic curtains fitted to reduce noise levels (not pictured), which have been tested and fit within the District Plan limits. We’ll continue to monitor noise levels.

The KINAN Cycling Team, the No 2 UCI ranked team in the Asian calendar, is aiming to start 2020 in style by securing a top performance at the five-stage elite international men’s road cycling race being held from January 15th – 19th. They will be joined by the AISAN Racing Team, a UCI Continental registered team, as well as six other international teams who are yet to be announced.
New Zealand Cycle Classic race director Jorge Sandoval says having the top ranked Asian UCI team return to race in New Zealand is a huge deal.
“KINAN is an extremely competitive team who has achieved great results this year including winning first place overall in the individual GC (general classification) in the Tour of Peninsula 2019 (Malaysia UCI 2.1) and Tour de Indonesia 2019 (Indonesia UCI 2.1). In addition, many of their riders have participated in the Tours of Asia, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Korea, and Japan,” says Sandoval.
“Having the KINAN team race in the New Zealand Cycle Classic for the second year running is great news as not only does it lift the profile of our event in Asia enormously, but for KINAN it is a big deal to start their racing season in New Zealand.”
Leading the KINAN Cycling Team is French hill climber Thomas Lebas, winner of Tour de Hokkaido, Tour de Flores, the international Tour of Setif in Algeria as well as the Mountains competition. Lebas started his cycling career racing in Europe before being signed by the Bridgestone Anchor Cycling Team. Since then he has concentrated on racing in the Asian calendar, winning races and featuring in almost every stage race he participates in says Sandoval.
“Thomas is a hill climber and winner of the King of the Mountain and general classification in this year’s Tour de Indonesia, a UCI 2.1 event,” says Sandoval. “He finished fifth in this year’s New Zealand Cycle Classic and I think the hills in Wairarapa will really suit him.”
