CALLING ALL DOG OWNERS.

The time has come the walrus said!! I don’t usually write any comments but the time has indeed come.

We are hearing that the SPCA is overwhelmed by animals right now - offering half price adoptions!!!

Why are the shelters overwhelmed? Are you aware that YOUR council has just increased our dog registration to $109?? I have a rego notice from 2006 and it was $58. So what do we get for such a huge increase? The majority of responsible owners have never had their dog in the Pound (we don’t currently have one!!), we have always paid our dues and so we need to ask WHY, WHEN INFLATION IS SO BIG RIGHT NOW, CAN COUNCIL HAVE THE GALL TO RAISE OUR FEES????

Did you also know that Dog Control does NOT operate at weekends??? Did you know that if you ring about a stray or menacing dog, we were told if you catch the dog, we will come and collect it!! Really.

One councillor said dog rego is a very important REVENUE source!!

Our registrations are coming up and I challenge you all to think about whether you will pay this crazy amount or not. I have looked at other Councils around NZ and one even has a special rate for senior dogs - and no the Government does NOT set the fee - local council does and we are known for being one of the highest in the country. Of that I am NOT proud.

Come on doggy folk- stand up together and say enough is enough.

PS: I’d love to see the reaction of all CAT owners if they had to pay this exorbitant fee and it is high time a fee also went onto cats.

PLEASE MAKE TIME TO WATCH THE SUNDAY PROGRAMME 28 MAY AS THIS ISSUE WILL BE DISCUSSED.

If anyone is interested in having a protest on this issue, please message me.

"After what seems an eternity since I last went bird spotting, I managed to get myself out to Silverstream 2 afternoons in a row! I can't believe how many kingfishers are around but most of the time, they have been too far away on the powerlines to get decent photos of but it was a bonus today seeing one on a post in the driving range car park!
I have also spent some time watching the pesky blackbirds and waxeyes munch their way through the grapes on the grapevine."
