We need Vets in critical services

George from Naenae

Our "fur children" count too! I dont see Vets anywhere on the essential services list. Am aware that some of them and their equipment might be repurposed (needs must) but what happens if a pet is sick/injured? Can at least one vet in an area stay open for pets only?

It's the food staple of 2 pet bunnies, 1 rescue bunny residing with HUHA & 5 rescued guinea pigs. I do go foraging but am unable to find it. Does anyone have a fairly unlimited supply I can forage/buy every week? Supermarket produce is limited and mostly not suitable for them, and the Hutt City Council is rapidly leveling the good forage spots that have not been weed-sprayed.

4.30pm UPDATE:

Laings Road Admin Building - From this evening all facilities will close, including the front desk at Laings Road Admin Building. Our resources will be redirected to our virtual contact centre.

Parking - Hutt City Council will stop enforcing parking charges across Lower Hutt for the next 48 hours. This will enable people to access essential services in our city, and allow people to plan for our move to level 4, without any charge for parking.

4pm Monday 23 March

To help control the spread of COVID-19, all Hutt City Council facilities are temporarily closed. This includes swimming pools, libraries, gyms, community hubs, computer clubhouses, museums, community halls, playgrounds, parks and sportsfields.

Rubbish collection is an essential service and especially during situations like COVID-19. For Lower Hutt this means that your kerbside rubbish and recycling collection service will continue. Due to reduced staffing on the trucks (to enable staff to work safely and at distance from one another) the service may be a little slower than usual, but it will still be collected. So please be patient. This also means that recycling may not always be able to be sorted as it has been and in that case may have to be taken to landfill for a period. Normal recycle processing will resume as soon as possible.

Community recycling stations – these will continue to be open for cardboard and paper. These stations are cleared by a front loading truck so there is no handling by people. Please note however that if too much material is left at these recycling stations and especially if rubbish is left there they will be closed. So please only use these for what you need.

In response to the Prime Minister’s address today on raised COVID-19 levels, Metlink will be moving to Sunday services across all public transport modes from Wednesday 25 March.

Metlink GM Scott Gallacher says, that while there are still a number of issues to work out, all trains and buses will move to Sunday services after Tuesday.

“We’ll work to deliver to the current timetables across the network tomorrow but from first thing Wednesday morning, Sunday timetables will be implemented,” says Mr Gallacher.

Buses will no longer board from the front door. Metlink apologises to customers who rely on the accessibility options provided at the front door and encourages customers to find out more about Total Mobility services during this time by calling 0800 801 700.

Customers will be encouraged to continue their own physical distancing practices on all trains and buses, leaving a space next to them where they can.

“We’re still working out what this might mean for Wairarapa rail services and will provide more updates when they become available,” says Mr Gallacher.

UPDATE: As part of the move to Sunday timetables, Metlink school bus services will not run from Wednesday.
