My best friend Tania will be walking the Wainui hill on 15/02/19 for 24 hours to raise money.

Tania's goal in 2018 was to walk the Wainui hill everyday for the whole year. She completed that goal and walked the hill 528 times (the equivalent to 3500 km which is twice the length of the country) despite facing tough barriers throughout 2018.

Tania has successfully lost 75kg over the past decade through exercise and diet, while also obtaining a diploma in exercise science. 2018 was her 10th year going to the gym and keeping the weight off.

One of her goals is to have an operation to remove the excess skin she has from the weight she has lost. There is currently no government funding for operations like this.

Tania is going to walk the Wainui hill for 24 hours to raise money for the operation. The only way she can have a break is if someone else is walking the hill in her place.

If you would like to support Tania on her 24 hour walkathon you can contact her on 022 586 7479 or if you would like to contribute you can visit: givealittle.co.nz...

Summer is a great time to enjoy our coast and waterways, but there are some times and places where caution is needed. The best thing you can do to keep yourself, your family and pets safe is know what toxic algae looks like and avoid it.

The algae grows on submerged riverstones in a shiny brown/dark green coating, or as dark brown strands. When it dies it floats to the surface and forms small brown or white mats at the water’s edge

If a person in your group swallows even a small amount of toxic algae (coin sized or less) seek IMMEDIATE medical attention.

DOGS
Toxic algae is deadly to dogs, who love the taste of the mats which float at the river’s edge. Keep your dog on a leash and away from the water. If your dog swallows toxic algae seek immediate veterinary attention.

♥️ Love Where You Live – Feb. 1st to 28th ♥️

The Team from Neighbourhood Support New Zealand

Love is in the air this month! And no, we’re not just talking about the heart-shaped boxes of chocolates and cheesy cards lining the aisles of stores... we’re talking about this month’s national campaign. February is all about finding ways to show your community a little extra love and care.

Whether it’s organising a street clean up, helping a neighbour tidy up their property, putting together a working bee to paint a community mural, or installing a communal free kai pantry or library - there are so many ways to make our neighbourhoods that much more enjoyable for everyone.
