New Zealand is still exposed to the new, more contagious, strains of Covid-19 despite the Government recently bolstering its border and pre-departure defences.
The number of daily Covid-19 tracer app scans has dropped from one million a day, at its height, to the current low of 300,000.
That means that if the more contagious variants get into the community, it will be hard to trace contacts.

there is now not a lot that would help slow the beast - nor much easy access for the services to get there..jus sayin....

It is amazing how many little fish they catch like this. I saw him gobbling several little morsels down, probably slightly bigger than whitebait. They scythe their beaks back and forth like old-time hay gatherers, snapping them shut on tasty things, then quickly tip their heads back to swallow their prey whole. Royal spoonbill/kōtuku ngutupapa (Platalea regia). Between tides/closer to low tide is probably the best time to see them at the Hutt Estuary.

It comes as Covid-19 surges around the world, in sharp contrast to New Zealand, where there is no current community transmission. Both the US and UK are experiencing unprecedented peaks in Covid-19 and nearly 2 million people have now died from the virus globally.
