Event manager Michael Jacques, said the decision to cancel was disappointing, especially for the runners who had been training, but they needed to turn their attention to the 2021 event.
The 2250 registered runners would not be receiving a refund, but would be able to enter for free next year.
Jacques said the decision to cancel was "especially gutting" as it was the 35th anniversary of the marathon, which is the longest running running event in Wellington.

"I wanted to let the triage nurse know that she is making a massive difference," Lisa said.
While Lisa was waiting, she watched the nurse handle many situations.
A moment that stood out to Lisa was when the nurse resuscitated a patient and calmed their family afterwards.
"She repeatedly demonstrated mana and was so respectful and caring."
"When she assessed me, she spoke so no one else could hear, even though I didn’t ask her to do this. She just knew."

Have you seen one of these in action before? Watch a video of the action happening in the Daly Street area. It’s very interesting to watch the drilling process. This standard penetration test is to gather a sample to test the density and strength of the soil.
