A good night's sleep is essential for your physical and mental well-being. If you find yourself tossing and turning, try these tips to help you achieve the sleep of your dreams.

Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise, such as walking, swimming, or yoga on most days of the week. Just avoid exercising too close to bedtime, as it may increase alertness.

Setting up a regular sleep schedule can work wonders for achieving restful sleep. Try to go to bed and wake up around the same time every day, even on weekends. This will help regulate your body's internal clock, making it easier to fall asleep and wake up naturally.

Electronic devices emit blue light that suppresses the production of melatonin, a hormone that regulates sleep. Not to mention that texting, watching television or scrolling are all stimulating, which can keep your brain on alert. Avoid using electronic devices for at least an hour before bed and turn off the TV.

Wellington Mayor, Tory Whanau says a National-ACT -NZ First coalition government would be "dangerous, disastrous" and that she would be "terrified" of this happening.
So it is a given that a National-ACT Gov will emerge in two weeks and the possibility of NZ First getting in on the act is fairly high.

I too feel that Whanau, a left wing Green Party advocate, is right in one particular way. National and ACT are committing to taking millions of funding dollars away from the civil services and divesting them of thousands of jobs. This would affect not only Wellington but the local region as a whole. Government and quasi Government departments and organisations is the backbone of the Wellington region and its economic health and well being.

National have done it before more than once and it has taken a Labour Government each time to revitalise departments like Conservation to allow the likes of them to get to a point of achieving what is being attempted.

This time round, the National Party has also gotten into a bind - promising too much in tax cuts with one of the only ways to meet the tax cut costs is by shedding millions from the civil services.

There is a hope that should NZ First get a share of the Government benches, they can trim National-ACT plans in respect to our civil services otherwise Whanau will be right. I suspect Whanau has other reasons also for her rather unstateswoman pronouncement as Mayor of a leading city of what seems certain to occur.

Hutt Valley Police investigating the death of Craig McKelvie are continuing to appeal for information to assist in identifying those involved in the incident.

The details:
- Craig McKelvie, 52, was found seriously injured at a Mason Street address in Lower Hutt on Friday 14 October 2022, and passed away from his injuries in hospital a short time later.
- At this stage, no one has been charged in relation to the death.

Detective Senior Sergeant Martin Todd has shared:
As a result of extensive enquiries over the past year, the investigation team are confident we understand the reasons that led to Mr McKelvie’s death. We continue to investigate with the hope we can hold those responsible accountable for their actions and provide his family with answers.

Where loyalties have previously prevented you from speaking, we ask you to reconsider what is gained from remaining quiet when Mr McKelvie’s family remain in the dark over the death of their loved one. I know there are a lot of people out there, some being friends of Mr McKelvie, who know what happened and have the crucial information relating to his death and I urge you to contact Police.

We recognise Mr McKelvie had a colourful history which has been recounted since his death. Regardless, no one deserves to die in the manner that he did. He has a mother, father, sister and brother who saw and know a different side to Mr McKelvie – one of a cheeky, respectful, loyal, caring, and loving son and brother.

Statement from the family of Craig McKelvie:
The family describes Craig as someone who always lived life on the edge, he was on the move from the moment he entered the world. His cheeky charm and caring side was unique to Craig. His death is a tragedy to his family and close friends. Those who truly knew Craig knew they had a loyal friend who would give the shirt off his back to help you and your family.
We urge those who have information that may help get justice for Craig to do the right thing and come forward with information.

Anyone with information can contact police on 105 quoting phone number 221015/8888. Information can also be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.

The "old" Wellington town hall needs another injection of cash surpassing $150 million in order for its restoration and earthquake reinforcing to be completed. And we know this won't be the last big bill payable concerning this building.

It's simply not worth the money already spent, already committed and already signalled as being required "over and above".

The town hall needs private funding and this will occur if a Kirkcaldie & Stains-type resolution is made. Ditch the current plans but complete the restoration of the "frontage" of the building and allow for construction of a tower block behind the facade. It might be that that a private developer will allow for a couple of things that have been earmarked for a reconstructed town hall.

What Wellington city has in historical buildings and in a multitude of amenities. the region has too. So we are all affected by what goes on, what goes up and what goes down in Wellington.

In these times of great water and sewerage reticulation issues it is better that local councils concentrate primarily on infrastructure which is their core business.

By Hutt City councillor Brady Dyer
Opinion: With a week to polling day, it is important that you get out and vote on Saturday.
While many in Lower Hutt have already headed to the polls, there are always those who hesitate.
If you're undecided, let's take a moment to debunk a few myths about voting.
Firstly, don't view voting as searching for the ideal marriage, or finding ’the one'. It's more like taking a bus journey.
You may not find a bus that drops you at your exact doorstep, but you will find one that gets you nearer to your destination.
Once you're closer, you'll likely find other ways—or perhaps another election—to move you even nearer to where you'd like to be. Don't let the quest for the 'perfect candidate' prevent you from making a decision that brings you closer to your hopes for the future.
Next, let's tackle the relevance of politics in our day-to-day lives. There's no escaping the fact that decisions made at the governmental level directly impact us. The rising cost of living in Lower Hutt is a perfect example.
When it comes to funding essential infrastructure projects, local ratepayers can't bear the brunt alone, especially when looking at the amount of investment that is required in the future to upgrade things like our water systems.
This is where central government needs to take more responsibility and increase funding for the community and local government to deliver more.
Also, while you're deciding whether to vote, consider this: the people who make key decisions in your life are probably not hesitating. Your landlord, who determines your rent, is likely to vote.
Your employer, who influences your work environment, will probably cast a ballot too. When you choose not to vote, you're essentially giving them more say in matters that affect you directly.
Turning to local issues, our focus shouldn't just be on improving roads, although that is needed. A well-rounded approach to transportation should include better options for walking and cycling.
Not only is this better for the environment, but it also alleviates congestion for those who do need to drive. In a nutshell, it's a win-win for everyone. Finally, let's not underestimate the power of a single vote.
Polling stations are open and within easy reach. Your vote isn't just a personal choice; it's part of a collective decision that shapes the future of Lower Hutt and New Zealand as a whole.
Voting isn't just ticking a box, it's a powerful way to shape both your community and your future. It's your chance to grab the wheel and influence the route this 'bus'—our community and our country—is taking.
While you may not find a service that delivers you straight to your dream destination, you can at least choose the direction that gets us closer.
Voting isn't flawless, but it remains our most effective tool for collective decision-making. So step up, get on that bus, and help steer us all towards a future you'd like to be a part of.You can find all the information you need to enrol and vote atwww.vote.nz
