About 3000 households won’t have their new bins in time for the start of Lower Hutt’s revamped waste and recycling service.
The Hutt City Council has blamed Covid-19 related shipping delays on the hold-up, with the last lot of bins not scheduled to arrive from Australia – where they were manufactured – until after the July 1 start date.
Council chief executive Jo Miller said the delay occurred despite efforts to have the bins brought over earlier.
Interim arrangements have been made for households that will be without the bins when the new service starts. The green recycling crates currently in use would continue to be emptied.

A proposal to build 30,000 affordable houses, on land between Porirua and Lower Hutt, has little support amongst local body politicians.
Lower Hutt real estate agent John Ross is promoting a plan to develop 1800 hectares, known as the Kilmister Block, as the solution to Wellington’s housing crisis.
Greater Wellington chair Daran Ponter and Porirua Mayor Anita Baker have both rejected the plan, citing its potential ecological value. Ponter supports planting it in natives for carbon emission credits.
What do you think? Is it an idea worth pursuing?

"Hello all, I am Gabe! A fun, loveable boy who has stolen the hearts of everyone at the centre. I am looking for an experienced owner, who has a suitable property for me to thrive in. I'm always up for a walk or a game to play, and I love to find things to do and keep active. I am looking for a home with teenagers or adults, and a home without cats or small animals. I am happy to play with other active dogs, and love to be social with both people and dogs. If you are interested in me and my goofy personality - chat to the canine team."

I live in the floor area of Trentham where it is promoted as being especially safe from earthquakes, tsunamis, floods and liquifaction.
Now we do not live on the infamous earthquake fault line but its pretty close by; tsunamis are unlikely to infiltrate so far up the valley as Trentham; the ground is solid and clayish.

But safe from flooding??

The Hutt River is a dominating feature of the Hutt Valley and its potential to rise furiously and break through the man-made tentative barriers that are meant to bind it, must create some trepidation for those who live on its level.
So is Trentham over towards the eastern hills safe from flooding? I don't think so.
