It has taken more than 100 years but the long talked about shared pathway between Wellington and Hutt Valley is about to begin.
The Government has fast tracked construction of the $130 million harbour side path and construction could get underway as soon as next year.
The new Ngāūranga to Petone section will be a shared path with a 5m wide sealed surface, on the harbour side of the Hutt Valley Railway Line, according the new designs, released today by Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency.
It will provide a continuous connection between the existing Wellington to Ngāūranga section, which is scheduled for upgrades, and the new Petone to Melling section, which is currently under construction.
A 1.8 metre chain link fence will separate the path from the adjacent railway line.

I've decided to Brave the Shave and donate to honour my Grandad Peter McCawe who passed away in March 2018.
My grandparents have always supported the Cancer Society and I want to help them like they helped our family, and our friends who like my Grandad, have had to go through this battle.

I've always loved long hair but I will cut if all off if we reach my target (think of all the beanies I could wear!)

Hair will be donated to Freedom Hair to make wigs as well :)

We both know how important cancer research is. So whether or not you want to help support this cause and my endeavor or just want to see me shave my head, please help us by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button.

Please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends, workmates lodge members and family. You have my sincere thanks in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!

He spotted three birds he had never previously seen and posted on Facebook hoping someone would help identify them.
He was surprised to find that he had seen the Lesser knot (sometimes called the Red knot).
According to birdsonline it is a regular visitor from Russia. There are about 120,000 that winter over in Australia or New Zealand but Woolf said he had never seen one before in Wellington.
What is the rarest bird you have spotted?

Hi Neighbours – join us on Saturday 17 October as we continue our season with a delightful triple-header.

We kick off with Josef Suk’s generously melodic serenade, which contains a capriciously dance-like second movement. Music Director Marc Taddei will, as ever, conduct our players through the performance, which includes Prokofiev's brilliant first piano concerto.

The concerto is performed by internationally celebrated pianist and cherished Wellingtonian Jian Liu, before we round off the evening with Rachmaninoff's beautiful third and final symphony.

Tickets start from $40, and the concert will take place at 7:30pm at the Michael Fowler Centre.

An independent investigator has found "material and serious" code of conduct breaches by Hutt City councillor Chris Milne.

The breaches relate to two separate complaints made against Milne to the council’s chief executive by Deputy Mayor Tui Lewis in May.
The first accused Milne of interfering with the council’s waste and recycling tender process, while the second alleged an ongoing conflict of interest while the council considered selling land for the benefit of Hutt Valley Tennis.

Milne's wife is the President of Hutt Valley Tennis, which has been seeking significant financial support from the council.
Milne declined to comment other than to say he would be presenting evidence on Friday which the council had not yet seen.

My very first photos when I got my new camera were of these guys as they tend to stand still while you work out how to focus the camera. There are normally two or three down there at any time, strutting around gracefully or stalking the little fish. This shot is taken in the early evening when the light gets all goldeny.
