Twelve hopefuls chase spot on Hutt City Council
The race is on to replace David Bassett on the Hutt City Council.
Twelve candidates have put their name forward for the Central Ward vacancy..
Voting is by postal vote. The by-election will be conducted using First Past the Post and will cost ratepayers $50,000.
The candidates are: Glenda Barratt, Phil Caswell, Henry Clayton, Andrew Fox, Andrea Hilton, Michael Lulich, Simon Monrad, Thomas Morgan, Evelyn Richter, Ash Roper, Faran Shahzad, Colin Wilson.
Poll: Do you think banning gang patches is reasonable?
With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.
This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.

Public Transport fares face 70% increase..
Wellington region users says increases to public transport fares of more than 70 percent would be "ludicrous", and would lead to them working from home more often, or taking the car rather than the bus.
